At Avalon Holographics, we’re building the world’s most advanced holographic display systems, enabling real-time 3D visualization used in industries such as defense, healthcare, and entertainment, without the use of headsets or glasses!
Delivering high-resolution holographic content in real time requires enormous amounts of data to be processed quickly and efficiently. Our CODEC team works at the intersection of software, hardware, and algorithms to help make that possible, and our students play an important role in this work.
At Avalon, students are a vital part of our team and an important part of our long-term talent pipeline. We’re proud to provide meaningful opportunities that support both your learning and your career growth.
As a CODEC Co-op Student , you’ll help develop, test, and optimize the compression and decompression technology that supports our holographic display systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with high-resolution data, performance optimization, and advanced visualization technology.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work alongside our CODEC and Engineering teams to support the development and optimization of the technology that processes holographic content.
- Develop and test compression and decompression algorithms for holographic data
- Support the optimization of CODECs for speed, efficiency, and visual quality
- Analyze performance and identify opportunities to improve data processing
- Test and validate CODEC functionality across different conditions and workloads
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to integrate CODEC solutions into our holographic display systems
- Debug and troubleshoot software, algorithms, and system-level issues
- Document technical workflows, testing results, and findings
- Research and explore new approaches to compression, data processing, and performance optimization
- Contribute to special projects supporting the development of our holographic technology
What We’re Looking For
- Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related co-op post-secondary degree program.
- Experience with or a strong interest in software development, algorithms, and data processing.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C/C++ and Python is an asset.
- Robust interest in performance optimization and solving complex technical problems
- Naturally curious and motivated to research, experiment, and figure things out independently.
- Comfortable taking ownership of projects and running with ideas from concept through execution.
- Confident working with direction but without requiring constant step-by-step instruction.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to document technical workflows and communicate findings clearly.
- Comfortable collaborating across software, hardware, and engineering teams.
Why Join Avalon?
Get meaningful experience working at the intersection of software, hardware, and advanced visualization technology, with mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities to take ownership of your work.
If you’re ready to tackle complex data challenges and help develop the technology that makes real-time holographic visualization possible, apply today with your resume and transcripts! Please note that your application won’t be considered complete without both documents.
