Company Description A Better Ontario is a growing Ontario-based organization built around a simple idea: bring people together, understand community issues and turn valuable ideas into meaningful action.

After developing our research and Special Projects work, we're now expanding our public-facing community operations, beginning in Georgina and growing throughout York Region.

We're building this from the ground up, which means the people joining now have an opportunity to help shape what it becomes.

Role DescriptionWe're recruiting for multiple volunteer leadership and community positions, including:

- Municipal leadership
- Community engagement
- Research and analysis
- Projects and implementation
- Communications and content
- Team leadership and coordination

Our first community team is being established in Georgina, with plans to expand this model throughout York Region as participation grows.

This isn't one rigid volunteer position. We'll look at your interests, experience, career goals and availability and determine where you may be a good fit.

The work can include speaking with residents, identifying community priorities, researching issues and solutions, developing projects, building relationships with organizations and helping lead other participants.

Participation is flexible. We understand people have careers, school, families and other responsibilities.



Some work can be completed remotely, while other opportunities involve getting out into the community.

Qualifications

We're deliberately keeping the barriers to entry reasonable. You don't need years of management experience or a perfect résumé.

We're looking for people who:

- Are interested in leadership, community involvement or public service
- Are actively pursuing or considering careers in policing, fire, paramedicine, government, municipal service or other public-facing fields, or simply have relevant experience to contribute
- Are reliable and willing to follow through on commitments
- Can communicate respectfully with different people
- Are willing to listen, learn and work collaboratively
- Have an interest in making their community better
- Can exercise valuable judgment when representing an organization publicly

Previous leadership, research, community involvement, communications or project experience is an asset, but it is not required for every position.

Most importantly, we're looking for people who understand that if you want to eventually serve the public, there is value in starting to serve your community now.
