Department Manager

Starting Salary: $48,000 annually, negotiable based on experience

Location: Greater Victoria, BC

Availability to Work:

Full availability is required. Work schedules are typically 8.5-hour shifts, 5 days per week and will vary based on restaurant operations. Shifts may include early mornings, days, afternoons, evenings, overnights, weekdays, and weekends, with varying days off.

Flexibility across all shifts is essential for this leadership position.

About Us

Carpenter Enterprises (B.C.) Inc. is an independently owned and operated McDonald’s franchise located in Greater Victoria. We are currently seeking a Department Manager to join our restaurant leadership team.

This is a permanent, full-time leadership position responsible for leading an assigned department while supporting the overall success of the restaurant.

Our Department Managers play an active role in restaurant operations. Approximately 75–80% of the role is focused on on-floor shift management and area supervision, with approximately 20–25% dedicated to administrative and department responsibilities.

Position Summary In addition to the responsibilities of a Shift Supervisor, the Department Manager provides business leadership for an assigned department and contributes to achieving restaurant targets related to sales, profitability, people, operations, and guest experience.

You will lead by example, communicate business priorities to the team, and ensure employees receive the training, coaching, and support they need to be successful.

Depending on restaurant needs and experience, Department Managers may lead areas such as People, Guest Experience, Kitchen Operations, Facilities, or Beverage.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead daily shifts and maintain accountability to McDonald’s operating standards
- Supervise, coach, and provide direction to teams of approximately 11–15 employees
- Identify operational gaps during shifts and take appropriate action to improve performance
- Lead an assigned restaurant department and monitor progress against department goals and objectives
- Review and analyze sales, guest count, operational, and profitability results
- Complete weekly department walk-throughs to assess performance, identify opportunities, and develop action plans
- Track and report department performance using department scorecards
- Communicate business targets and priorities to employees
- Train, coach, motivate,



and develop employees to improve individual and restaurant performance
- Maintain McDonald’s food safety, cleanliness, and operational standards
- Ensure strong people practices and contribute to a positive, respectful workplace culture
- Seek guest feedback and respond to and document guest concerns appropriately
- Monitor company communications and ensure relevant operational, promotional, and procedural changes are understood and executed
- Prepare for and participate in regular management meetings
- Support another department when required and work closely with the General Manager and restaurant leadership team

Qualifications

- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate preferred
- Several years of recent experience in food preparation or food service, preferably within the last 3–5 years
- 2+ years of recent restaurant or food-service management experience in a quick-service or high-volume environment
- Previous experience leading a Kitchen, Guest Experience, or People Department is preferred
- McDonald’s management experience is considered an asset
- Experience supervising and developing teams of approximately 11–15 employees
- Valid First Aid and Food Safety certifications are preferred; the company can provide initial certification for qualified candidates if required
- Strong leadership, coaching, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Organized, flexible, reliable, and accountable
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment

Technical Skills

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Familiarity with MS Windows and MS Access
- Experience with accounting or business reporting software
- Experience using POS systems and electronic cash registers
- Comfortable reviewing operational and financial performance reports

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

- Approximately 8.5-hour shifts, 5 days per week
- Combination of on-floor leadership and administrative responsibilities




- Approximately 75–80% on-floor shift management and area supervision
- Approximately 20–25% administrative and department management duties
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching
- Exposure to kitchen equipment and cleaning products
- Fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment
- Schedule may include early mornings, days, afternoons, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs
