The Director, Lifelong Learning provides strategic and operational leadership for Royal Roads University's portfolio of continuing education,
qualified certificates and diplomas, micro-credentials, executive and professional development offerings, applied learning programs, and other lifelong learning initiatives delivered through Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS).
The role is responsible for the development, quality, performance, and sustainability of the lifelong learning portfolio, ensuring programs remain relevant, responsive to learner and employer needs, academically rigorous, financially sustainable, and aligned with institutional priorities. Working collaboratively with academic units, the Director identifies opportunities to translate institutional expertise into accessible and market-relevant learning experiences that support workforce development, leadership development, personal and professional growth, and community impact.
The Director provides leadership for program strategy, portfolio planning, curriculum development, quality assurance, faculty engagement, learner experience, and program performance. The role works closely with the Director, Business and Workforce Development to translate external opportunities into educational offerings and with the Director, Operations and Business Systems to ensure effective delivery, enrolment, and operational performance. The Director serves as a key advisor to the Dean on lifelong learning strategy, portfolio development, and program innovation.
Job Requirements
- Master's degree in Adult Education, Continuing Education, Leadership, Higher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Organizational Development, Business, or a related field; doctoral degree considered an asset.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in continuing education, lifelong learning, professional education, executive education, workforce development, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading program portfolios, curriculum development, quality assurance, and educational innovation within a post-secondary or comparable learning setting.
- Demonstrated success leading teams and managing professional staff in complex organizational environments.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, lifelong learning, micro-credentials, professional education, and applied learning models.
- Demonstrated experience in portfolio planning, program evaluation, performance measurement, and strategic decision-making.
- Strong financial acumen, including portfolio planning, revenue management, forecasting, and program sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across academic and administrative units and to influence decision-making in complex organizations.
- Strong communication, presentation, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify emerging opportunities and translate strategic priorities into innovative educational offerings.
- Experience working with professional associations, accrediting bodies, industry partners, or workforce development organizations is an asset.
Additional Information
This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at ME-C with a salary range of $122,186 (minimum) to $143,748 (midpoint) to $165,310 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
