- Lead CBC Saskatchewan’s news operation across Saskatoon and Regina
- Oversee daily, enterprise and investigative news gathering, digital and social publishing, and radio and television news programming
- Work alongside the executive producer of programming to steer journalism and storytelling across video, digital and audio platforms
- Oversee daily news coverage decisions and provide journalistic policy and judgment leadership
- Ensure content adheres to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity
- Provide editorial oversight so content is original, relevant and impactful and elevates diverse voices and perspectives
- Provide guidance on legal risk management
- Develop innovative storytelling approaches across platforms
- Monitor audience and industry trends and develop future opportunities
- Coordinate and oversee live and breaking-news specials
- Oversee staffing and scheduling decisions
- Identify and develop emerging talent and support recruitment of candidates from underrepresented groups
- Mentor staff and develop people, skills and careers
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading teams in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment
- Excellent journalistic and critical thinking skills, including deep knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism
- Superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proven ability to execute on a strategic vision
- Ability to exercise quick editorial judgment and long-term planning
- Ability to motivate and coach teams, encourage creativity and embrace experimentation
- Demonstrated talent recognition, development and retention skills
- Experience and commitment to developing content strategies featuring new voices and perspectives and connecting with younger and more diverse audiences
- Strong connection to Saskatchewan communities and nuanced understanding of diverse perspectives and lived experiences
- Strong people management skills and commitment to diversity and an inclusive, respectful work culture
- Ability and willingness to work flexible schedule as required
- Valid driver’s licence and driving record meeting CBC/Radio-Canada insurance requirements
- University degree in journalism or equivalent
- Minimum seven years of journalism experience
- Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing
- English language requirement: reading, speaking and writing
- Successful candidates must complete a mandatory criminal record check; other background checks may apply
