Financial & Subsidy Analyst Type: In-Office, Part-Time 15 Hours Minimum During Business Hours, Permanent Role Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour Our client is a respected nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening affordable housing communities throughout the Edmonton region. Working alongside housing co-operatives, they help ensure residents have access to safe, sustainable, and well-managed homes while promoting financial stewardship, community engagement, and long-term sustainability. With decades of experience supporting member-governed housing communities, the organization has built a reputation for collaboration, innovation, and responsible financial management.
As they continue to grow and pursue new opportunities to expand affordable housing initiatives, they are investing in their finance team to enhance strategic planning and operational support. Rather than focusing solely on traditional accounting functions, you will contribute directly to budgeting, capital planning, and financial decision-making that supports the long-term success of affordable housing communities and the people who call them home. As the Financial & Subsidy Analyst, you will primarily support subsidy calculations and budget preparation while providing additional accounting support to the finance team as required.
Working closely with the Property Coordinator, you will help ensure each housing co-operative has accurate financial information to support effective planning and decision-making. Develop a robust understanding of the organization's housing programs, subsidy requirements, and the unique circumstances of the properties within the portfolio.
Budget
Preparation & Financial Planning Assist Property Coordinators with the preparation of annual operating budgets for multiple housing co-operatives.
Help Property
Coordinators understand the financial implications of operating and capital decisions.
Accounting Support
Provide general accounting support to the accounting department based on current business needs. Assist with basic accounting tasks,
account reconciliations, reporting, documentation, and other financial activities as required. Work collaboratively with the Senior Bookkeeper, Junior Accountant, Property Coordinators, and other members of the team to ensure financial information is accurate and complete.
Systems & Continuous Improvement Utilize NewViews accounting software and QuickBooks to access financial information and support reporting requirements. Create and maintain sophisticated Excel workbooks using formulas, financial models, and large datasets to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Financial
Analysis & Capital Planning Review financial information and supporting documentation to help identify trends, risks, and areas requiring further attention. Assist with reviewing reserve fund studies and building condition assessments to support long-term capital planning. Help evaluate the financial implications of capital requirements and ongoing property needs.
As the role develops, contribute to cost analysis and potential cost-saving initiatives across the portfolio. Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline. Approximately 5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning.
Experience within nonprofit organizations, affordable housing, financial institutions, banking, mortgage lending, or similarly analytical environments is considered an asset. Professional accounting designation (CPA) is not required.
Technical Skills
Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis experience. Advanced or strong intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, financial models, and working with large datasets.
Experience using accounting software such as NewViews, QuickBooks, or similar ERP/accounting systems. Ability to interpret reserve fund studies, building condition assessments, or long-term capital planning documentation is an asset. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. A proactive mindset with a continuous improvement approach to financial processes and reporting. #
