Summary description

Reporting to the division head, the person in this position plans, coordinates, supervises, and monitors daily activities related to fostering an environmental culture through initiatives, both within the Public Works Department and throughout the municipality. He or she ensures the quality of services provided to residents and compliance with environmental standards.

Main responsibilities

Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and requirements

Monitor operations related to the recycling center, waste materials, collection, and landfill management

Supervise work performed by subcontractors and implement any necessary corrections

Develop work standards and methods relating to the collection and recovery of recyclable and compostable materials and waste management

Develop, coordinate and supervise the work of students and the green patrol in carrying out the awareness campaign

Ensure the health and safety of their team and enforce occupational health and safety (OHS) rules in their operations

Maintain a regular presence in the field to visit residents, raise their awareness of environmental issues, and support them through these changes

Represent the City with citizen groups, in schools or at information booths, by preparing presentations and leading meetings on environmental policies and programs

Participate in developing environmental protection training and awareness programs

Receive and process complaints and requests within their area of responsibility: resolve them, follow up on them, recommend appropriate preventive measures, and implement them

Respond on-site, as needed, to environmental emergencies (spills, illegal dumping, etc.) to quickly assess the situation and propose the required measures

Compile data,



prepare reports and formulate recommendations related to site visits and issues identified in the field

As needed, participate in drafting specifications and requests for proposals for contracts related to waste management, environmental studies, and the environmental reference line for citizens...

Qualifications required

Required qualifications

College diploma or other relevant experience

Three to five years of relevant experience in the field

Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and practices

Proficiency with computer software: Microsoft Office, Adobe

Knowledge of data sampling methods and selective recycling collection

Bilingual in French and English.
