A collective of ten Hamilton-area charitable and nonprofit organizations, supported by the Hamilton Community Foundation, is seeking an experienced and community-minded Fundraising Consultant to help develop and implement a collaborative fundraising initiative.
The participating organizations provide a diverse range of services and supports across Hamilton. Together, the collective has identified approximately $35,000 to invest in developing and implementing a joint fundraising initiative designed to increase community awareness, attract new donors, and generate funds to support the participating organizations.
We are looking for a consultant who can bring both strategic fundraising expertise and a practical, hands-on approach to implementation.
Scope of Work The successful consultant will:
- Meet with representatives from the ten participating organizations to understand their respective missions, communities, fundraising experience, and priorities.
- Facilitate discussions to identify a shared cause, theme, or story that authentically connects the work of the participating organizations.
- Assess fundraising opportunities and recommend an approach that offers a reasonable prospect for donor acquisition and financial return.
- Develop a practical fundraising and implementation plan.
- Work directly with the collective to implement and support the campaign rather than providing recommendations alone.
- Advise the collective on how approximately $35,000 in available campaign funds should be invested to maximize reach and potential return.
- Support campaign messaging, donor engagement, partnerships, promotion, and other elements required for implementation.
- Provide recommendations for how participating organizations can build on the initiative and strengthen their fundraising capacity beyond the project.
The collective is open to different fundraising approaches. Potential strategies may include matching-gift campaigns, direct-mail or digital donor acquisition,
corporate or community partnerships, participation in existing Hamilton events, a 50/50 or other fundraising initiative, or a combination of approaches. We are looking to the successful consultant to bring their expertise and help determine the most appropriate strategy rather than follow a predetermined fundraising model.
What We Are Looking For
Preference will be given to consultants who demonstrate:
- Experience developing and implementing successful charitable or nonprofit fundraising campaigns.
- Knowledge of Hamilton and the local philanthropic landscape.
- Experience with donor acquisition, annual giving, matching campaigns, direct mail and digital fundraising, sponsorships, community partnerships, or similar fundraising strategies.
- A practical and hands-on approach to implementation.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple organizations or stakeholders.
- A commitment to ethical and responsible fundraising.
- The ability to work within the available budget while maximizing the amount directed toward fundraising activities.
Independent consultants and small consulting firms are welcome to apply.
Proposal Requirements
Applicants should submit a brief proposal of no more than 10 pages that includes:
- A summary of relevant fundraising experience.
- Examples of similar campaigns or projects previously completed.
- A preliminary description of how you would approach this project.
- The services and level of hands-on implementation you would provide.
- A proposed timeline.
- A proposed consulting fee, up to a maximum of $10,000.
- Two references from charitable or nonprofit organizations, where possible.
We recognize that the final fundraising strategy cannot reasonably be determined until the selected consultant has had an opportunity to meet with the participating organizations. Applicants are therefore not expected to provide a complete campaign strategy as part of their proposal. Pay: $10,000.00 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Hamilton, ON
