Position Overview: Assisting a client with activities of daily living to support independence while providing comprehensive care and treatment.
Main Function: Under the direction of the employer, the Health Care Worker (HCW) assists the client with activities of daily living, providing direct care within established standards. The HCW assists with meeting the special and changing needs of the client to help them obtain and maintain optimum health and independence within the limits of their abilities. This position is subsidized by Self and Family Managed Care.
Duties
Assistance with toileting.
Assistance with bathing.
Supervising walks with client.
Monitoring for fall prevention.
Medication timing reminders.
Laundry related to client’s care.
Experience
Experience providing care to individuals with physical or cognitive impairments is preferred.
Education Requirements
Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course required.
Necessary Skills
Ability to provide secure and effective personal care in a manner that honours the client’s need for comfort, privacy, and respect.
Ability to communicate effectively in English with client, employer, other family members, and site staff, both verbally and in writing.
Sound judgement.
Ability to skillfully perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.
Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
Effectively balance working independently with ability to recognize when to seek direction from employer.
Physical Requirements
May encounter distressed individuals.
May be exposed to conditions associated with independent living setting, including (but not limited to) disease, blood, body fluids, pest infestation, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, residual smoke, pets, pet dander, etc.
Position involves extensive physical activities such as standing, transferring and transporting patients, and equipment handling between 10 to 20 kg on a regular basis.
Ability to work scheduled shifts.
Access to reliable transportation, and willingness to attend site year-round.
Conditions of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Must be qualified to work as a Health Care Aide in the province of Manitoba.
Must have a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
Must read, write, speak, and understand English.
Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position.
Other Responsibilities
Remain current with employer’s policies and procedures.
Other duties in support of the client’s care, as required.

Pay: $24.00-$24.50 per hour
