The Role:
The HR Business Partner is an experienced, hands-on HR professional who partners with leaders and employees across Wholesome Kids Catering to provide day-to-day HR support. The role is responsible for employee relations, performance and attendance management, disability and leave administration, WSIB coordination, return-to-work planning, workplace investigations, policy application, leader coaching, employee experience initiatives, and HR compliance. Working closely with managers and supervisors, the HR Business Partner proactively addresses people-related matters, ensures consistent application of employment legislation and company policies, and independently manages routine and moderately complex employee issues while collaborating with the Director of Human Resources on sensitive, high-risk, or complex matters.
Success:
The successful HR Business Partner will:
- Serve as a trusted HR partner to leaders and employees, providing practical guidance & support on day-to-day people matters.
- Proactively address employee relations, performance, attendance, & workplace issues while ensuring consistent and compliant HR practices.
- Coach leaders to effectively manage their teams & make sound people-management decisions.
- Exercise strong judgment by independently managing employee matters & escalating higher-risk issues appropriately.
- Support workplace injury management, WSIB claims, accommodations, & return-to-work programs.
- Foster a positive employee experience, strengthen accountability, & promote consistent people-management practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Business Partnership & Leader Support
- Serve as the primary HR partner to leaders and employees, providing guidance on employee relations, performance, attendance, conduct, & policy matters.
- Build strong relationships across the organization & maintain regular visibility within the operation.
- Coach leaders on effective & consistent people management practices.
- Identify workplace trends, risks, and recurring issues, recommending proactive solutions & escalating significant matters as appropriate.
- Partner closely with the HR team and HR Director to ensure aligned, effective, & compliant HR support across the business.
Employee Relations
- Lead employee relations matters, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, & performance concerns.
- Prepare and support disciplinary actions, Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), & termination processes in partnership with the HR Director.
- Coach leaders through employee conversations & people-management challenges.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and legally defensible employee relations documentation.
- Identify workplace trends and recommend proactive solutions to improve employee performance & engagement.
- Independently manage routine employee relations matters while escalating complex or high-risk issues as appropriate.
Performance Management & Leader Coaching
- Partner with leaders to proactively address performance concerns & ensure consistent accountability.
- Coach managers on performance management, feedback delivery, documentation, & progressive discipline.
- Support Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and facilitate difficult employee conversations when needed.
- Enable leaders to effectively manage employee performance while reinforcing WKC values & leadership expectations.
Attendance, Leaves & Accommodation
- Partner with leaders to manage attendance, absenteeism, & employee leave matters.
- Monitor attendance trends and support coaching, corrective action, & performance discussions as needed.
- Coordinate disability management, accommodations, modified duties, & return-to-work programs.
- Ensure confidential handling of medical and accommodation information while maintaining accurate documentation and follow-up.
- Escalate complex accommodation, disability, or human rights matters to the HR Director as appropriate.
Policy, Compliance & Workplace Practices
- Interpret & apply HR policies consistently while advising leaders and employees on HR practices and employment legislation.
- Support the implementation of HR policies, audits, & corrective actions to ensure compliance with company standards and legislative requirements.
- Identify compliance risks, policy gaps, & inconsistent practices, escalating concerns as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant employee relations documentation.
Employee Experience, Engagement & Culture
- Maintain a visible HR presence across departments & shifts while serving as an approachable resource for employee concerns.
- Support the timely resolution of workplace issues & promote positive employee relations.
- Reinforce WKC values, workplace expectations, and a culture of accountability, collaboration, and respect.
- Partner with leaders to enhance communication, employee experience, engagement, & retention.
- Identify employee trends & workplace themes, providing insights and recommendations to the HR Director.
- Support employee recognition, culture-building, & engagement initiatives across the organization.
Health & Safety Support
- Partner with Operations and Health & Safety teams to support workplace safety, incident investigations, & corrective actions.
- Coordinate WSIB claims, employer reporting, documentation, & communication with employees, leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Manage Functional Abilities Forms (FAFs), accommodations, modified duties, & return-to-work (RTW) programs.
- Track workplace injury cases to ensure timely follow-up, compliance, and successful RTW outcomes.
- Coach leaders on incident reporting, WSIB requirements, modified work, & return-to-work responsibilities.
- Support Health & Safety initiatives, JHSC activities, training, audits, & compliance requirements.
Qualifications & Role Requirements:
Education
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration or related discipline.
- CHRP designation preferred; CHRL considered an asset.
Experience
- 5–7+ years of progressive HR Generalist/HR Business Partner experience.
- Robust hands-on experience independently managing employee relations matters.
- Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and supporting progressive discipline and performance management.
- Experience coaching frontline supervisors and managers.
- Experience supporting attendance management, disability management, workplace accommodations, WSIB claims, Functional Abilities Forms (FAFs), modified work & return-to-work processes.
- Experience in manufacturing, food production, logistics or another fast-paced operational environment strongly preferred.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work onsite in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Flexibility to support employees and leaders across multiple shifts when required.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, HR best practices, WSIB processes, accommodations, and return-to-work programs.
- Proven experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, performance management, attendance management, and progressive discipline.
- Excellent communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to assess risk, exercise sound judgment, and effectively manage sensitive employee matters.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and support leaders in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex cases independently.
KPIs:
- Timely resolution of employee relations matters, investigations, and workplace issues.
- Effective management of attendance, accommodations, leaves of absence, WSIB claims, and return-to-work programs.
- Consistent application of policies, progressive discipline, and performance management processes.
- Timely, accurate, and high-quality HR support provided to leaders and employees.
- Compliance with HR policies, documentation standards, legislative requirements, and audit expectations.
- Identification and resolution of workplace trends, recurring issues, and corrective actions.
- Improved leader capability and accountability in managing day-to-day people matters.
- Clear communication and escalation of employee relations risks and trends to the HR Director.

Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with flexibility to support operational needs, including occasional afternoon/evenings.
Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 annually
Benefits: Standard benefits plan
Time Off: 2 weeks vacation plus up to 8 Wellness Days annually.
