Insurance Defence Legal Assistant
Our Client, a well-respected law firm, is looking for an Insurance Defence Legal Assistant who knows litigation, stays two steps ahead, and doesn’t mind a busy day. You’ll be supporting two lawyers and working on Tort/Insurance Defence files, so a minimum of three years’ of experience is ideal. ACL and CaseCentre experience are a must, and we’re looking for someone confident, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of their work.
You’ll spend your first 6 weeks in the office getting to know the team and the role, before moving into a 3-day in‑office, 2-day remote hybrid schedule. The position comes with a competitive salary and a outstanding opportunity to find your next long‑term home.
Salary: Up to $75K (Based on Experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Draft, proofread, serve, and file legal documents.
- Prepare various legal documents, including:
- Correspondence
- Affidavits of Documents
- Motion Records
- Mediation Memoranda
- Schedule Examinations for Discovery, court appearances, meetings and other appointments efficiently while managing lawyers’ calendars.
- Assist with preparation for trials and arbitrations.
- Assist with docketing, billing, and cheque requisitions.
- Manage files through all stages of the legal process.
- Prepare special reports, including gathering and summarizing data.
- Maintain organised physical and electronic document systems.
- Exercise initiative and sound judgement to relieve lawyers of administrative tasks and details.
- Work with various legal software, with strong experience using MatterSphere.
- Open and close files.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Insurance Defence Law experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality of work.
- Working knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court procedures.
- Ability to manage a large volume of documents and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to be resourceful and work with minimal instruction or supervision.
- Team‑player attitude with strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong initiative and follow‑up skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ACL, and CaseCentre.
- Ability to multitask, prioritise, and manage time effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new processes and software.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong ability to prioritise workflow and manage critical details.
- Completion of a Legal Assistant Diploma is considered an asset.
