Reporting/Responsibilities
Education
Reporting to the Principal –
- Special Education, the Itinerant Special Education Teacher –
- Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides system-level leadership, consultation, and direct instructional support to schools supporting students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing Deaf, including students with multiple exceptionalities. The successful candidate will:
- Serve as the Itinerant Teacher providing specialized support to schools with students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, including those with ongoing and complex learning.
- Collaborate closely with Principals, classroom teachers, Special Education staff, Educational Assistants, and system-level professionals to support inclusive and accessible programming.
- Provide direct and consultative instructional services to individual students and small groups who are Deaf, and Hard of Hearing. Support effective collaboration between schools, families, and community/service partners.
Qualifications And Skills
- Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers (in valuable standing).
- Minimum Part 1 Special Education
- Specialist Qualification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience in the OECTA Elementary Panel.
- Demonstrated experience teaching students who are Deaf, and Hard of Hearing, including experience with students with multiple exceptionalities.
- Teaching Students Who Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing qualifications or a demonstrated willingness to obtain these additional qualifications.
- Background knowledge of instructional strategies for students with hearing curriculum adaptations and accessible learning materials, and assistive and adaptive technologies.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred; candidates willing to develop fluency will be considered.
- Able to provide in-services and training for staff.
- Must have basic computer literacy skills.
- Excellent written or oral communication skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
