Reporting to the Director, Library (“Director”), the Librarian, Reference and Student Experience (“Librarian”)’s principal responsibilities are to support the academic work, including teaching, learning and research, of instructors, students, and other researchers of the University by developing, maintaining, and providing access to the university library’s resources. The Librarian has the responsibility to participate in library and other university, academic, or professional committees to the extent that such other involvement does not interfere with the fulfillment of their principal responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide information literacy instruction to students in a variety of academic disciplines and programs, as assigned by the Director.
- Assess the teaching, learning and research needs of CUE students and instructors to inform library collection development according to the collection development guidelines. Engage in collection assessment and development activities, as assigned by the Director.
- Provide one-to-one reference and research consultations (in-person, virtually, or via email), and other library support, to students, instructors, staff, and community members across a variety of disciplines and areas.
- Provide support to students, instructors, staff, and community members when at the library services desk.
- Lead or engage in project work as assigned, such as:
- Development of reference and research support materials;
- Management of physical and electronic collections in designated subject areas;
- Participation in the planning of library services; and
- Other project work as assigned.
- Represent the Library department on CUE working groups, committees, and councils, as assigned by the Director.
- Maintain a professional network relevant to position responsibilities, as approved by the Director.
- Lead or engage in events and activities organized by the Library department, or by the institution.
- Maintain a professional image and demeanor with students, instructors, staff, Director and other management, senior leadership, and visitors at all times.
- Seek learning opportunities, mentorship, and professional development that enhances their efficacy in the role, as approved by the Director.
- Complete other duties, relevant to the position, as assigned.
Additional Role-specific Service Librarian Duties The incumbent will also serve as CUE’s Reference and Student Experience Librarian:
- Assists students and instructors with research inquiries, helping them find, evaluate, and effectively use appropriate library resources;
- Facilitates information discovery, assisting learners with strategic search formulation and the utilization of specialized research databases;
- Aligns library research guides and reference services with ACRL standards, ensuring instructional and reference resources are continually updated to encourage citation literacy and the ethical use of information;
- Develops and maintains CUE’s reference guides;
- Optimizes the CUE library environment for all learners by bridging the gap between students and library services:
- champions inclusive spaces, promotes information literacy, and ensures library resources directly support academic success;
- develops and maintains library resources specific for international learners that support their transition to a new learning environment;
- Works with other departments on campus to support the transition of current students into higher education at CUE by collaborating with student orientation events to deliver an orientation that promotes library services to first-year undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements
- MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program is required.
- A minimum of three years in a post-secondary institution is required. Other relevant experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of STEM and health academic subject areas is required.
- Experience with instructional design and relevant software (i.e. Articulate 360, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.) is preferred.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check results are required.
Working Conditions
- Office environment: Long periods of sitting and monitor usage.
- Classroom instruction: long periods of standing.
- Transporting library materials within the library and between buildings: long periods of working and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
