Position Start
As soon as possible The Licensed Childcare Coordinator is responsible for the operations of 5 Licensed Childcare programs (Preschool and School Age Care) at two locations – Douglas Park Community Centre and Edith Cavell Elementary School.
The School Age
Care program serves families from Edith Cavell and Emily Carr Elementary Schools for before/after school care, as well as pro-d days and school breaks.
The Licensed Childcare
Coordinator leads the team of 20+ Childcare Staff members and operationally reports directly to the Community Recreation Supervisor. This position is also accountable to the DPCA Board of Directors, and therefore should uphold the vision, mission, and guiding principles of DPCA.
Human Resources
- Hire, train, lead and facilitate day-to-day supervision of Licensed Childcare Staff
- Manage staff schedules and staff payroll including sick days and time-off
- Conduct regular check-ins and performance reviews of Licensed Childcare Staff
- Facilitate and lead staff/team meetings for Licensed Childcare Staff
- Ensure Licensed Childcare Staff understand and comply with all VCH, DPCA, and VPB policies and procedures related to Licensed Childcare operations
- Update staff manuals on a continuous basis and inform staff of any changes
- Update employee files (ie. tracking staff certificates and appropriate training opportunities)
- Provide ongoing staff training and support including coordination of professional development as needed
Program Development & Support
- Provide oversight of daily activity plans and implement developmentally appropriate,
safe and inclusive activities for children of various ages in accordance with established VPB risk management guidelines and licensing requirements
- Oversee the implementation of activities and curriculum grounded in best practices in early childhood education and focused on school readiness, creativity, physical and cognitive development and social-emotional growth
- Ensure a warm, inclusive and child-centered environment
- Facilitate and reconcile monthly program petty cash for Licensed Childcare Staff
- Purchase capital equipment and supplies recommended by the program staff as required
- Build strong professional relationships with families, community partners and the broader community
- Provide ongoing program support and delivery as required
Administration
- Record keeping and reporting to DPCA Board of Directors, VPB, VSB, licensing agencies, granting agencies, and financial auditors as required
- Attend monthly DPCA Board and Licensed Childcare Committee meetings as required and provide updates and reports
- Develop and monitor annual budgets including fees and wage increases, capital funding grants/subsidies for all Licensed Childcare programs
- Management of various grants and subsidy applications including the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, Wage Enhancements, ACCB, and CCOF/CCFRI subsidies
- Develop and oversee registration, waitlists, and payment processes for all Licensed Childcare programs via ActiveNet while maintaining PCI DSS-compliant
- Maintain registered children’s records, registration contracts and program handbooks
- Liaise and oversee licensing compliance requirements with Vancouver Coastal Health
- Collaborate with the Recreation Programmer(s) and provide information about Licensed Childcare programs for the seasonal recreation guide and website
- Attend APG Child Care Committee meetings and other community events as needed

Additional Qualifications
- Working knowledge of ActiveNet registration software
- Familiarity with inclusive and community-based childcare programming
- Experience working with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Vancouver School Board (VSB), Ministry of Children and Family (MCFD), municipal government, and other community service providers
Years Experience Required 3
Required Experience
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate or a combination of relevant experience and an appropriate education in a related field (e.g. psychology, child and youth care, education, social work, etc.)
- Minimum 3 years of recent supervisory experience of licensed childcare programs
- Strong understanding of the BC Childcare Licensing Regulations and Early Learning Framework
- Strong communication, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team; demonstrates good judgement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Google Workspace
- Successful clearance of a criminal record check (renewed every 5 years)
Salary & Benefits
- $33.50/hour + $6.00/hour for Licensed ECE’s as per BC Wage Enhancement Initiative
- Benefits include: Paid sick time, vacation, paid statutory holidays, MSP coverage & extended health perks package, monthly cellphone bill reimbursement

Work Schedule
- 7:30am-4:00pm (30-minute unpaid lunch break), Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week
- Flexible hours dependent on operational needs, some evening work may be required
- Note: Douglas Park Community Centre is closed on all statutory holidays and partially closed during winter break.
