Role Description Touch Coffee Smart Bar Ltd. sells self-service smart coffee bars and turnkey equipment solutions across Canada and the United States, including consulting support for location placement.
We are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal for a remote, part-time employee position requiring approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation starts at CAD $50 per hour, with the potential for an increase following successful completion of the three-month probationary period, based on performance.
The role involves managing customer disputes, cancellation and refund requests, contractual claims, warranty matters and collections.
Responsibilities include organizing evidence and case files, preparing chronologies and hearing packages, coordinating filings and deadlines,
drafting correspondence and court documents for review where required, and working with external counsel. The successful candidate will also support authorized settlement negotiations and represent the company as an authorized employee in BC Small Claims Court where legally permitted.
Applicants must have direct, verifiable Small Claims Court experience, strong written English and the ability to manage files and deadlines independently. Candidates must provide at least two professional references and descriptions of three relevant matters, identifying their personal responsibilities and outcomes. Public decisions or redacted work samples should be provided where available and legally permitted; confidential or privileged information must not be disclosed.
Qualifications
- Paralegal diploma or certificate, law degree, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- At least two years of relevant litigation experience, including direct, verifiable participation in Small Claims Court proceedings.
- Experience preparing claims, replies, applications, affidavits, evidence packages and settlement correspondence.
- Ability and willingness to represent Touch Coffee as an authorized employee in BC Small Claims Court where legally permitted, including attending conferences, hearings and trials.
- Robust knowledge of BC Small Claims procedures, filing and service requirements, and court deadlines.
- Experience handling commercial disputes, customer refund claims, contractual disagreements or collections.
- Strong document review and legal research skills, with sound judgment about when to refer questions to external counsel.
- Excellent written and spoken English, including the ability to explain issues clearly and communicate professionally with customers, lawyers and court registries.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines independently in a remote environment.
- Proficiency with case management systems, Microsoft Office and electronic document organization.
- Availability for approximately 20 hours per week and occasional travel within British Columbia.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
