About the Role
As the Store Manager, you’re the leader who sets the tone for everything – the customer experience, the team culture, the financial results, and the operational standards. You’ll be visible on the floor, engaged with customers and employees alike, and accountable for the store’s performance across every dimension.
This is a senior leadership role that requires you to think and act strategically while staying deeply connected to the day-to-day. You’ll lead a team of supervisors, develop your people, manage budgets, grow market share, and build the kind of store that customers trust and employees are proud to work in.
What You’ll Be Doing
People Leadership
- Actively recruiting, selecting, and developing staff in alignment with service standards, succession planning, and culture fit
- Setting clear expectations for direct reports and motivating performance through recognition, coaching, and corrective feedback when needed
- Overseeing all training initiatives and ensuring processes are in a place to maintain development requirements across the team
- Promoting a high level of product knowledge to build team member confidence and improve customer service
- Building strong teams that reflect and represent the communities they serve
- Proactively forecasting staffing needs and scheduling accordingly
Financial Performance & Operations
- Understanding and communicating KPIs to the management team and employees, and holding the team accountable to goals
- Maximizing profitability through close monitoring of labour, inventory, overhead, and other store expenses
- Providing factual, data-driven rationale for budget recommendations based on historical performance, market conditions, and trend analysis
- Working with the Marketing Manager to develop market positioning strategies aligned with corporate objectives to grow profitable sales and increase market share
- Planning and following up to ensure the store is set appropriately for seasonal timeframes and market conditions
- Directing store operations and delegating opening and closing responsibilities to supervisors
Customer Experience & Community
- Building strong professional relationships with retail, professional, and commercial customers
- Completing regular store walks to foster communication, identify service or security gaps, and address operational needs
- Building solid relationships with business partners including Finance,
Human Resources, IT, and Asset Protection through proper execution of standards and procedures
Inventory & Safety
- Promoting shrink awareness and identifying potential sources of inventory loss, implementing corrective measures as required
- Ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC and Asset Protection Standards – communicating protocols clearly and following up to ensure they are consistently upheld
What We’re Looking For
This is a senior leadership role. Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:
- Minimum 3-5 years of store management experience in home improvement, building centre, or relevant retail environment
- A proven track record of leading teams, developing people, and delivering strong store performance
- Strong financial acumen – you understand budgets, KPIs, and what levers to pull to improve profitability
- Exceptional customer service skills and a genuine commitment to building lasting customer and community relationships
- Strong strategic thinking combined with the ability to execute and follow through on the floor every day
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills – you inspire confidence in your team and your business partners
- High level of integrity, responsibility, and communication skills – you inspire confidence in your team and your business partners
- High level of integrity, responsibility, and confidentiality in all aspects of store operations
- Detail oriented with a strong commitment to operational standards and safe work practices
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office
