SUMMARY:
Responsible for managing the Margin Matching function and overseeing inventory control activities across stores and Distribution Centers (DCs). This role ensures accurate margin reporting, inventory costing, and financial controls, while supporting period-end close, regulatory reporting (Beer/Wine), and operational compliance.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee daily/weekly analysis of store and DC margin, shrink, and inventory
- Maintain inventory and shrink reports (weekly and periodic)
- Prepare and distribute key reporting (Beer/Wine, 3rd Party Wine, Starbucks, Nature’s Source)
- Develop new reports to support evolving business needs
- Prepare and maintain weekly blended margin, shrink, and inventory reports
- Analyze store-level performance and provide variance insights (margin, shrink, inventory)
- Produce weekly and periodic reports for operations and senior management
- Prepare stock gain/loss and preliminary inventory results
- Deliver comparative reporting to support operational decision-making
Inventory & DC Oversight
- Ensure accurate costing and valuation of all inventories
- Monitor and balance DC inventory and reporting activities
- Visit stores and DCs to validate processes and identify improvements
- Support inventory validations and store execution
Beer/Wine & Regulatory
- Oversee Beer/Wine reporting to meet regulatory and weekly deadlines
- Analyze and resolve LCBO inquiries related to invoicing
- Ensure accurate reporting and compliance for controlled products
Period-End Close & Accounting
- Prepare, upload, and approve journal entries (discounts, handling charges, RTV/STV, LCBO container fees, delivery fees, etc.)
- Complete and approve account reconciliations.
- Support period-end close activities and reporting requirements
Systems & Data Management
- Maintain Cat Mart database and manage MMS uploads
- Oversee RTV/STV processes, reconciliations, and vendor return accounting
- Generate exception/unmatched reports and drive corrective actions (Type 2/4 and unscanned)
Operational Support
- Troubleshoot DC and DSD invoice/PO discrepancies
- Investigate and resolve store inquiries (charges, credits, adjustments)
- Support store compliance with invoice entry and inventory processes
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure adherence to IFRS standards, internal controls (52-109), and company policies
- Support internal and external audits
- Maintain and update departmental procedures and controls
Team Leadership
- Manage daily workflow and team priorities
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to staff
- Ensure procedures are understood and consistently applied
- Manage scheduling and ensure operational coverage
Additional Responsibilities
- Support stat holiday payroll processes (PT stat)
- Provide coverage for team as required
- Maintain business relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Participate in projects and continuous improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College Diploma or University studies in accounting
- 3 - 5 years related work experience in accounting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- P.C. literate with intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Positive knowledge of margin accounting
- SAP and AS400 knowledge would be an asset.
