Role Description This full-time, on-site Medical Office Assistant role is based at VIDC Vancouver Infectious Diseases Centre in Vancouver, BC.
The Medical Office
Assistant supports daily clinic operations by greeting patients, managing check-in and check-out processes, and handling incoming phone calls with professional phone etiquette.
Responsibilities include scheduling and confirming appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, and verifying insurance and other coverage details as needed. The role also involves preparing charts, updating patient information, assisting with basic administrative tasks, and coordinating with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
The Medical Office
Assistant contributes to a welcoming setting and upholds privacy, safety, and infection control standards.
Qualifications
- Strong phone etiquette and appointment scheduling skills to manage patient communications and bookings efficiently.
- Knowledge of medical terminology to accurately navigate patient records, documentation, and clinical communication.
- Experience with insurance verification and related administrative processes in a healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in general administrative assistance, including data entry, filing, and use of electronic medical record systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse patient populations.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and reliability in managing confidential information.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Completion of a Medical Office Assistant or related healthcare administration program, or equivalent experience; prior experience in infectious diseases, HIV, or HCV care is an asset.
