St. Clair Machine Tool Design is a quickly growing company seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Metal Saw/Brake Press Operator to join our fabrication team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing organization and develop your skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will operate Hy-Mech metal-cutting horizontal band saws and a Mitsubishi Dener 160-ton brake press. Candidates with metal saw experience who have not previously operated a brake press are encouraged to apply. Training on the Mitsubishi Dener brake press will be provided to the right candidate.

This position is well suited to someone who is mechanically inclined, comfortable working with imperial and metric measurements, and committed to producing accurate, high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities

Metal Saw Operation

- Set up and operate Hy-Mech horizontal band saws and related cutting equipment
- Cut steel tubing, angle, channel, flat bar, round bar, and other materials to specified dimensions
- Perform straight, mitered, and angled cuts as required
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, cut lists, work orders, and material specifications
- Verify material type, profile, wall thickness, cut length, angle, and quantity before cutting
- Plan cuts efficiently to minimize material waste
- Monitor blade condition, cutting pressure, coolant levels, and machine performance
- Perform routine saw maintenance and assist with blade changes
- Deburr, clean, label, count, and organize completed parts
- Stage finished material for machining, forming, welding, or assembly

Brake Press Operation The successful candidate will be trained on the following responsibilities if they do not already have brake press experience:
- Set up and operate a Mitsubishi Dener 160-ton brake press
- Select and install the appropriate punches, dies, and tooling
- Form sheet metal and plate according to fabrication drawings and bend specifications
- Interpret bend lines, bend angles, dimensions, material thicknesses, and forming instructions
- Enter and adjust machine settings according to job requirements
- Calculate or verify bend allowances, bend deductions,



and developed lengths when required
- Perform single-bend and multiple-bend forming operations
- Verify tooling clearance and press capacity before beginning a job
- Produce first-off parts and confirm dimensions before completing production runs
- Inspect bend angles, flange lengths, overall dimensions, and part orientation
- Make controlled adjustments to compensate for material variation and springback
- Identify and report drawing, tooling, or material issues before continuing production
- Protect finished surfaces from unnecessary marking or damage
- Perform basic brake press inspections and routine operator maintenance
- Return tooling to its designated storage location after use

Quality and Safety
- Accurately use tape measures, squares, protractors, calipers, and other inspection equipment
- Inspect completed parts and confirm they meet drawing requirements
- Maintain accurate production, material-use, and job-tracking records
- Safely load and unload materials using appropriate lifting equipment
- Follow all machine-guarding, lockout, and safe-operating procedures
- Wear all required personal protective equipment
- Keep saws, brake presses, tooling, and surrounding work areas clean and organized
- Communicate material shortages, drawing discrepancies, quality concerns, and equipment problems to the supervisor

Qualifications
- Previous experience operating industrial metal-cutting saws is preferred
- Brake press experience is an asset but is not required; training will be provided
- Experience with Hy-Mech saws is an asset
- Experience in a metal fabrication, welding, or machine-shop workplace is an asset
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, cut lists, and work orders
- Strong understanding of imperial measurements and fractions




- Ability to work confidently with metric measurements
- Ability to identify common steel profiles, grades, and material thicknesses
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and follow production priorities
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic
- Forklift and overhead-crane experience are assets
- Willingness to learn brake press operation and other fabrication processes

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for most of the shift
- Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lb
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks
- Ability to safely handle sheet metal, steel tubing, plate, and brake press tooling
- Ability to work safely around machinery, sharp edges, noise, metal chips, and coolant
