The Designated Manager is a full-time, on-site position based in Exeter, ON, holding overall professional and regulatory responsibility for the pharmacy under the Ontario College of Pharmacists' accreditation standards. This role oversees all aspects of daily pharmacy operations, including the safe and accurate dispensing of medications, and serves as the pharmacy's primary point of accountability to the College for compliance with the Drug and Pharmacies Regulation Act, the Pharmacy Operation and Drug Scheduling Act, and related professional standards.
The Designated Manager supervises pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff; manages inventory and narcotic/controlled substance record-keeping; and leads self-inspections and readiness for College accreditation assessments. The role also includes direct patient counseling on medications, support for immunization services, and coordination with healthcare providers and Rofael Group's operations team to optimize patient outcomes.
Additional responsibilities include implementing best practices in pharmacy workflow, monitoring performance metrics, addressing incident reports and quality-related occurrences, and contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives across the location.
Qualifications
- Current pharmacist license in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, eligible to serve as Designated Manager under OCP accreditation requirements.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy practice standards, accreditation requirements, and the regulatory framework governing pharmacy operations in Ontario.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff in a community pharmacy setting.
- Proficiency in managing prescription processes, including verification, dispensing, patient counseling, and documentation.
- Experience with narcotic and controlled substance record-keeping, inventory control, and regulatory reporting.
- Experience supporting immunization services, including adherence to vaccination protocols and safety guidelines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with a focus on patient education and safety.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a pharmacy setting, with prior Designated Manager or Pharmacy Manager experience preferred.
- Experience with pharmacy management systems is an asset.
