Portfolio Management Associate i2i Capital Management — Waterloo / Hybrid Full-time | Compensation: Salary plus Bonus Potential

About us i2i Capital Management is a Canadian discretionary portfolio management firm. We manage money for individuals, families, and trusts, with a research-driven, long-term approach to equity investing.

Our clients get direct access to the people who actually manage their money, and it means the person in this seat gets exposure to every part of the business rather than one narrow slice of it.

The role

This is a rapid-track position for someone who wants to be a portfolio management associate and is prepared to earn it.

You will start by supporting portfolio construction, research, and client work, and take on progressively more responsibility for investment decisions and client relationships as you demonstrate judgment. The intent is that you grow into a full Portfolio Manager role and eventually carry your own book. We will be explicit with you about what that timeline looks like and what has to happen to move along it.

The role will not stay in one lane. You will touch operations, trading, compliance, marketing, and business development. If you want a job with a tightly defined mandate and clear boundaries, this isn't it. If you want to understand how an investment firm actually runs, it is.

What you'll do

Portfolio management and research

- Conduct fundamental research on Canadian and U.S. equities: financial statement analysis,

valuation, industry work, and management assessment

- Build and maintain financial models and monitor existing holdings through earnings, news flow, and thesis-relevant developments
- Contribute investment ideas to the team and defend them under scrutiny
- Assist with portfolio construction, position sizing, rebalancing, and tax-aware trade decisions
- Propose trades and monitor allocations against client mandates and IPS constraints
- Track performance and attribution

Client work

- Prepare quarterly portfolio reviews and performance reporting
- Join client meetings, and over time lead them
- Respond to client questions on holdings, markets, and account matters
- Support onboarding, KYC, and IPS documentation

Everything else a small firm needs

• Contribute to written market commentary and research content

- Support compliance obligations and internal record-keeping
- Help improve internal processes, reporting, and research tooling
- Participate in business development and prospect conversations

What we're looking for

Required

- 2–5 years in investment research, portfolio management, wealth management, or a closely related role
- CFA charter, CFA candidacy, or CIM designation — or the ability to complete the requirements for registration as an Associate Advising Representative in Ontario

- Strong fundamental analysis skills and genuine fluency with financial statements
- Excellent written communication; you will be writing for clients, not just for internal use
- Comfort with Excel and financial data platforms

What actually matters to us

- You have real opinions about businesses and can articulate why
- You are willing to be wrong publicly and update your view without ego
- You handle client relationships with care and directness rather than jargon
- You take ownership of problems that aren't formally yours
- You are interested in investing outside of work hours, not because we require it, but because that's usually what separates good analysts from great ones

Nice to have

- Experience with Croesus
- Past experience in a wealth management role
- Candidate resides in South-Western Ontario

What we offer

- A defined path to Associate Portfolio Manager with real accountability attached to it
- Direct mentorship from senior PMs, not a training program
- Exposure to the full business — investment, client, and operational
- Support for CFA/CIM fees and continuing education
- Compensation that grows with the book you help build

How to apply

Send your resume and a short cover note. In place of a standard cover letter, we'd rather read a one-page write-up on a stock you own or would buy today.

We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted. i2i Capital Management is an equal opportunity employer.
