We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Quality Assurance Technician to support food safety and quality assurance activities at our Waterloo facility. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and takes pride in ensuring that products and processes meet established standards.
GENERAL
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Coordinator, the Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for verifying that HACCP and Quality Assurance Programs are effectively maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards. The role conducts inspections, product quality checks, data collection, documentation, and reporting to confirm compliance and identify when corrective action is required.
The Quality Assurance Technician also provides day-to-day support to Operations to help meet food safety and quality requirements efficiently and consistently. This position requires flexibility, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform pre-operational inspections of processing equipment, as required, before production start-up.
- Complete line checks to verify compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor line settings and accurately document results in accordance with process control requirements.
- Follow established food safety, quality, and HACCP procedures and principles.
- Monitor and report compliance with documented process control standards, including breading pick-up, fry-line checks, packaging inspections, and other required controls.
- Perform critical control point, metal detector, and allergen checks as outlined in the HACCP programs.
- Inspect raw materials and report findings or non-conformances.
- Complete required Quality Assurance records, data entry, and reporting accurately and on time.
- Escalate deviations and support corrective actions in collaboration with Quality Assurance and Operations.
- Perform other quality control duties defined within the Quality Assurance Plan and Prerequisite Programs, as directed by the Quality Assurance Coordinator or Quality Assurance Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous Quality Control or Quality Assurance experience, or equivalent experience in food manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of food manufacturing operations, HACCP principles, and Quality Assurance systems.
- Post-secondary education in food science, quality assurance, or a related discipline is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of standard workplace applications.
- Flexibility to work varied hours based on operational requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Night Shift (Sunday night to Friday morning) / Day Shift (Monday to Friday)
- Work is performed in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
- Regular exposure to wet and cold working conditions.
- May be required to work early morning, evening, or late-night shifts.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Total compensation package includes:
- Starting hourly wage of $22.75, increasing to $23.75 after 1,000 hours worked, plus applicable night shift and weekend premiums. Overtime is paid after 40 hours worked per week.
- Attendance Bonus: $0.75 per hour for employees who maintain perfect attendance during a scheduled pay period.
- Vacation: 10 paid vacation days per year.
- Sick Leave: 5 paid sick days per year.
