Job Title: Scrum Master
Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada — Remote with up to 15% in-office attendance
Work Requirement: Must work from within Canada
Engagement: Full time Contract
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta Time
Certification: Active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification required
? Project Overview The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) Division is seeking 10 Scrum Masters to support service innovation, program review, digital transformation, and product delivery initiatives across the Government of Alberta.
The Scrum Master will work with cross-functional teams that may include Product Owners, UX/UI Designers, Service Designers, Developers, Researchers, and other delivery professionals.
? Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams in Agile/Scrum principles, practices, policies, and procedures.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including:
- Sprint Planning
- Daily Stand-ups
- Sprint Reviews
- Product Demonstrations
- Retrospectives
- Backlog Refinement
- Coach teams on estimation, sprint commitments, dependencies, impediments, and continuous improvement.
- Remove roadblocks and distractions that impact sprint commitments and delivery.
- Partner with Product Owners on backlog management, release planning, roadmaps, and prioritization.
- Promote team accountability, collaboration, self-organization, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain and report delivery metrics such as velocity, burndown charts, sprint progress, product backlogs, and sprint backlogs.
- Support digital service delivery activities, including user research and usability testing.
- Manage communication and transparency across delivery teams and stakeholders.
- Translate technical changes,
automation impacts, and delivery information into clear business-friendly communication.
? AI & Automation Experience Candidates should demonstrate hands-on AI fluency and experience using generative AI and/or agentic tools to improve delivery practices.
Experience should include areas such as:
- Generative AI for meeting synthesis, documentation, reporting, analysis, and backlog support.
- Prompt design and structured retrieval.
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Evaluating AI outputs for hallucinations, privacy, security, sensitivity, risk, and appropriateness.
- Building AI-augmented Scrum Master workflows and routines.
- Workflow/process automation.
- Digital forms and structured intake.
- Automated status reporting.
- Agentic process orchestration.
- Translating AI and automation changes into practical team/business processes.
✅ Required Qualifications
- Active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification — mandatory.
- Minimum 2 years' experience coaching teams on Agile methodologies.
- Minimum 3 years leading and facilitating Agile ceremonies.
- Minimum 3 years working in an Agile development environment.
⭐ Preferred Experience
- 5+ years delivering training through web-based platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
- 1+ year guiding Agile teams toward accountability and self-organization.
- 4+ years with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability.
- 1+ year personally using AI tools to enhance Scrum Master responsibilities.
- 5+ years planning work aligned with Product Owner priorities, including sprint and backlog planning.
- 6+ years of experience with software development processes, methodologies, standards, tools, and best practices.
- 4+ years working in North American public-sector environments (municipal, provincial, or federal).
- 2+ years working with teams applying UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centered design.
?️ Public Sector Experience Preferred Experience with government or public-sector digital transformation, modernization, service delivery, process automation, or enterprise transformation will be strongly preferred.

- Active CSM certification.
- Two detailed project/assignment examples demonstrating Scrum Master expertise.
- Three professional references, with the most recent reference listed first.
- Candidates must be able to complete an enhanced background check, including criminal record and credit checks.
? Work Arrangement This is primarily a remote position , but the resource may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in Edmonton/Alberta with reasonable notice, up to 15% .
Important: Due to network and data security requirements, all work must be performed from within Canada .
