The Senior Power System Studies
Engineer is a full-time role based in North Vancouver, BC, with a hybrid work arrangement that allows some work from home. This role is responsible for leading and performing detailed power system studies, including stability, short-circuit, and interconnection analyses for inverter-based resources, energy storage, and complex data center loads. The engineer will develop and validate models in EMT and real-time simulation environments, collaborate on plant control system design, and support Hardware-in-the-Loop testing to verify performance under realistic grid conditions.
Day-to-day activities include preparing technical reports, presenting findings to clients,
coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to project planning and risk assessment. The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, supporting business development with technical input, and staying current with emerging grid codes and standards. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field. ~7+ years of relevant experience in power system studies, modeling, and analysis. ~ Strong knowledge of power system dynamics, stability, EMT analysis, and grid integration. ~ Experience with BESS, IBRs, data centers, renewable generation, and/or large-load interconnections. ~ Ability to independently manage technical studies and communicate findings and recommendations effectively. ~ Experience with real-time simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
Experience with weak-grid systems, GFM/GFL controls, and advanced IBR modeling. Data center studies for both grid-connected and off-grid/islanded operation Ability to independently lead complex studies, interpret results, identify risks, and develop practical mitigation solutions At EdgeTunePower, you will have the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving AI data centers, BESS, renewable energy, microgrids, advanced power system controls, and real-time/HIL validation. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team working on the next generation of reliable and resilient power systems. #
