Canada

KPDI is seeking a senior, hands-on Full-Stack Developer to join a remote Canadian development team delivering complex web applications and platform work. You will work across the stack, contribute to architecture and technical decisions, build production-ready features, and collaborate closely with senior developers, product and project leads, and client stakeholders. This is not a narrow ticket-taking role.

We need someone who can understand a problem, work effectively in an existing codebase, make sound technical choices, and carry work through implementation, testing, review, and deployment.

Skills & Qualifications

- 7+ years of professional software development experience, including substantial senior-level full-stack responsibility.
- Advanced TypeScript skills and strong hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including relational data modelling, query design, and performance considerations.
- Strong modern frontend development experience. Svelte experience is an asset; experience with comparable frameworks such as React, Angular, or Next.js is highly transferable.
- Robust backend and API development skills, including RESTful services, authentication, integrations, and server-side application architecture.
- Professional Git-based development practices, including branching, useful commits, pull requests, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience deploying and supporting applications in cloud environments. Azure experience is preferred; Supabase, AWS, or GCP experience is valuable.
- Python and/or Rust experience is an asset.
- Robust debugging and problem-solving skills across frontend, backend, database, integration, and deployment layers.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and work effectively with developers, project leads, designers, and client stakeholders in a distributed team.
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools responsibly, with independent verification of generated code and technical recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Build Production Software

Design and implement full-stack features using TypeScript and PostgreSQL, working across frontend, backend, APIs, data models, integrations, and supporting services. Produce maintainable, well-structured code that fits the architecture and conventions of the product rather than treating each task in isolation.

Work comfortably in unfamiliar and evolving codebases. Trace existing behaviour, identify the right implementation path, validate assumptions by running the software,

and deliver complete changes through Git-based workflows, including useful commits, pull requests, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD.

Solve Problems Across the Stack

Translate product and technical requirements into practical implementations. Ask questions when requirements are incomplete, identify edge cases and integration constraints, and work with the team to make sensible trade-offs between speed, maintainability, performance, and complexity.

Diagnose and resolve issues across application layers, including frontend behaviour, backend services, database design and queries, APIs, authentication, deployment, and cloud infrastructure. Improve existing systems where appropriate rather than simply layering current code on top of old problems.

Contribute as a Senior Engineer

Participate actively in technical design, estimation, refinement, and code review. Explain technical decisions clearly, challenge weak assumptions constructively, and help the team reach decisions without creating unnecessary process or architecture.

Support other developers through thoughtful review, pairing, documentation, and knowledge sharing. Take ownership of your work while remaining collaborative, responsive, and accountable to the wider delivery team.

Success in this role means shipping reliable software, understanding the systems you are changing, communicating early when something is unclear or at risk, and leaving the codebase better than you found it.

What You Bring The strongest candidates will demonstrate:

- Senior-level experience delivering production web applications, with strong TypeScript skills and substantial hands-on experience designing and working with PostgreSQL databases.
- Strong full-stack fundamentals: modern frontend development, backend/API design, relational data modelling, authentication and security basics, automated testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
- Experience working on complex software with other experienced developers, including reviewing code, reasoning about architecture, debugging across layers, and making pragmatic technical decisions.

How You Work

We need someone who combines technical depth with ownership:

- Read the requirements and the code before acting. Ask focused questions, investigate independently, and surface ambiguity or risk early rather than guessing or waiting for step-by-step direction.
- Communicate technical ideas clearly to developers and non-developers. Explain trade-offs, estimates, blockers, and decisions without unnecessary jargon or ceremony.
- Take ownership through completion. Run the code, test your work, respond to review feedback, follow issues through to resolution, and keep documentation current enough for others to rely on.

Initial Priorities The immediate objective is to become productive in an existing codebase quickly while demonstrating sound judgement, reliable execution, and strong collaboration.

Codebase onboarding - First 1–2 weeks

Local environment running, architecture and conventions understood, development workflow established, and an initial contribution completed through review.

Delivery contribution - Ongoing

Production-ready features delivered independently, effective participation in technical decisions and reviews, and clear ownership of assigned work.

Working Arrangement & Additional Context

This is a fully remote, six-month contract role to start, with a preference for candidates based in Canada. You will work with a distributed North American team and should be available for meaningful overlap with Eastern Time business hours.

Core Technology

- Required: TypeScript and PostgreSQL. Particularly useful experience includes Svelte, Supabase, Azure, Python, and Rust. We do not expect every candidate to have used every technology in the stack, but we do expect strong fundamentals and the ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar tools.

Practical Use of AI

- We actively use AI-assisted development where it improves speed and quality. You should be comfortable using modern AI coding and research tools, while remaining responsible for architecture, security, correctness, testing, and the code you submit. AI fluency is an advantage; unverified AI-generated code is not.

Evidence of Fit

- Candidates should be able to walk through software they have personally built: the problem, architecture, decisions they owned, difficult bugs or trade-offs, testing approach, and what they would change now. Shortlisted candidates should also expect a practical coding exercise in an existing repository followed by a technical review of their implementation and pull request.
