Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Superintendent Senior Carpenter to oversee residential renovation projects from inception to completion. This role is a combination of site superintendent responsibilities and hands on carpentry work. Initially, the role will be approximately 60% site supervision and 40% hands-on carpentry, with the intention of transitioning into a full time Site Superintendent position as the company and project workload continue to grow.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, solid technical expertise in all aspects of residential renovations, and a comprehensive understanding of residential construction and renovation processes.
Responsibilities include coordinating on site activities, performing and overseeing carpentry work, ensuring quality workmanship, maintaining safety standards, and managing project schedules and budgets and undertaking carpentry tasks. This role plays a critical part in delivering successful projects while adhering to all safety and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Build positive, respectful working relationships with employees, subcontractors, suppliers and clients.
- Provide constructive leadership and address performance or quality concerns professionally and collaboratively.
- Oversee daily on-site construction activities across multiple projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
- Provide detailed records of daily site activities, inspections, and communications.
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to facilitate smooth operations.
- Monitor progress and adjust schedules as necessary to meet deadlines.
- Read and interpret drawings, and construction documents accurately and assist in design managment where required.
- Use construction management software (Job Tread).
- Supervise on-site personnel, providing guidance and resolving issues promptly.
- Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Perform hands on custom carpentry work using your own tools, including framing modifications, finish carpentry, structural alterations, and beam installation.
- Complete quantity take offs, and assist with labour estimating and project planning.
- Ensure all work meets building codes, company standards, and client expectations.
- Act as the main on site contact for clients, inspectors, and neighbours and communicate clearly and professionally.
Experience
- 10+ years experience working in residential construction/renovations.
- 5+ years in a leadership role (foreman, lead hand, site supervisor, superintendent).
- Trade qualification in Carpentry (or closely related building trade).
- Proven experience delivering full-scope renovation projects (from demo to final finishes).
- Familiarity with construction management software preferably Job Tread.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple jobs and teams at the same time.
- Experience coordinating and supervising subcontractors and in-house crews.
- Experience with quantity take-offs, basic estimating, and ordering materials.
- Familiarity with local residential building codes, inspections, and permit processes.
- Experience using basic digital tools (email, smartphone apps, photos, simple spreadsheets).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Successful candidate will be required to complete a satisfactory criminal record check and reference checks as a condition of employment.
- Demonstrate experience with structural work including beam installation, load bearing wall removals, and open plan renovations.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and safety protocols on construction sites.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise diverse teams effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure project success from start to finish.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
