Student Program Coordinator - Yoga Progam for Seniors 55+

Duration: 6 months with a 3-month probation period

Hours: 10 hours per week

Wage: $19.79 per hour

Reporting To: Supervisor, with weekly check-ins

Position Summary:The Student Program Coordinator will support the planning, launch, and early development of a Yoga Program for seniors aged 55+, with a focus on accessibility, inclusion, and the diverse needs of people with intellectual disabilities. This is a self-directed position suited to a motivated student who is organized, creative, and comfortable connecting with community partners.

The Student Program

Coordinator will work independently while participating in a weekly check-in with their supervisor to review progress, priorities, and next steps.

Key Responsibilities:

- Create marketing materials and social media content to promote the Yoga Program in a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible way.
- Support the development of a program schedule by coordinating with day programs, the fitness facility, the yoga instructor, and Antigonish Transit.
- Assist with setting up the program structure, including dates, times, transportation considerations, participant supports, and communication needs.
- Develop a focus group questionnaire to gather feedback from seniors 55+, people with intellectual disabilities, supportassistants, and other stakeholders about what they would like to see in the program.
- Use inclusive, plain, and accessible language in questionnaires,



promotional materials, and participant communications.
- Collect, organize, and summarize feedback in a quantifiable format that can be used in reports and future program planning.
- Research potential locations, community organizations, and service providers that may support or collaborate on the Yoga Program.
- Contact potential partners to explore opportunities for collaboration, referrals, space, transportation support, promotion, or program development.
- Maintain organized records of outreach, feedback, schedules, contacts, and program planning documents.
- Provide weekly progress updates to the supervisor and identify any barriers, questions, or supports needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Student enrolled in, or interested in, community development, recreation, social services, disability studies, health promotion, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to manage tasks independently.
- Comfortable communicating with community partners, programassistants, instructors, and participants.
- Ability to write clearly using inclusive and accessible language.
- Experience or interest in working with seniors, people with intellectual disabilities, or community-based programs.
- Basic knowledge of social media,



Canva or similar design tools, Microsoft Word, and Excel or other spreadsheet tools.
- Ability to collect information, organize data, and prepare simple summaries for reporting.
- Respectful, patient, flexible, and committed to creating welcoming spaces for people of all abilities.

Work Style and Supervision: This is a self-directed position. The Student Program Coordinator will be expected to take initiative, organize their weekly tasks, follow up with partners, and move the project forward with guidance from their supervisor. A weekly check-in will be scheduled to review completed work, discuss challenges, and confirm priorities for the following week.

Expected Outcomes

- Marketing and social media materials developed for the Yoga Program.
- A draft program schedule created in coordination with day programs, the fitness facility, yoga instructor, and Antigonish Transit.
- An accessible focus group questionnaire developed and used to gather participant input.
- Feedback collected and organized into a clear, quantifiable format for reporting.
- A list of potential community partners, locations, and collaboration opportunities researched and documented.
- Initial outreach completed with selected organizations and partners.
