Position: Underwriting Assistant

Reports to: Underwriting Support Manager

Department: Underwriting Support

Location: Toronto Office – Markham, Ontario

Global operates as a Joint Underwriting Agency on behalf of a number of leading Insurance Companies (Insurance Pool members). Global is a full service agency with authority for underwriting and claims delegated to Global by its participating Pool members.

Position Summary:

The Underwriting Assistant provides day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Underwriting team to facilitate the underwriting of profitable risks and ensure the accurate and timely processing of policy transactions.

Through precise data entry, policy administration, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders, this role supports the progression of insurance policy decisions and contributes to new business opportunities. In this position, working closely with broker partners to deliver a high level of service is vital in supporting Global Aerospace’s commitment to maintaining its position as an industry leader in aviation insurance.

This is an established role within the Underwriting Support Department and is currently a vacant position.

Salary:

The expected compensation for this position falls within $58,000-$61,000 annually, while also noting that compensation is determined through an evaluation of combined skills, knowledge and experience.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:

- This position is performed on a hybrid basis, in a standard office environment and remotely, in accordance with company policies and business requirements.
- During periods of high workload, peak business volumes,



or other operationally busy periods, vacation requests may be subject to management review and approval based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

- Act as a liaison and provide administrative support to Underwriters, the Finance team
- Provide support to external brokers and clients to manage Global’s policy quoting and issuance processes.
- Input and manage data related to new business submissions with accuracy and efficiency.
- Process new and renewal aviation insurance business, including policy issuance, endorsements, and supporting premium calculations.
- Gather, develop, and maintain underwriting information, including submission data, loss run reports, and other documentation required to support the quotation process.
- Review and resolve premium discrepancies as required.
- Prepare and issue insurance certificates in compliance with policy terms and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct compliance checks and review policies to ensure accuracy and adherence to company standards.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience Qualifications & Key Skills:

- Minimum 1-2 years experience with insurance administration, customer service, or a related field.
- Customer service oriented with a strong interest or passion for the aviation industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build, develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational, time management,



and coordination skills in order to manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional attention to detail while working effectively in a high-volume environment to meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions.
- Self-motivated with a strong ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team workplace.

Education & Training:

- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent e.g. Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), required.
- Relevant education, training or professional designations (e.g., CIP, CRM) in either Aviation and/or Insurance, considered an asset.

- Ability to manage conflict professionally and navigate difficult conversations with diplomacy, and respect.
- Strong problem-solving skills, and able to resolve issues in a courteous, and customer-focused manner.
- Adaptable, flexible, and able to respond effectively to changing priorities to align with business needs.
- French language skills considered an asset.
