The Role

This is an amazing opportunity to join a progressive organization with a great medical team to help make a difference in our animals' lives. Reporting to the Director, Animal Health the Shelter Veterinarian provides support, guidance, and expertise to the shelter in the areas of medicine and surgery. This position will provide exciting opportunities to lead best practices in sheltering for sick or injured animals while maintaining EHS' vision of excellence in the advancement of animal welfare.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Elective Surgery – perform elective surgeries with the primary focus on spay/neuter surgeries, including pediatrics

- Surgery – perform dental, soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries
- Treatment – examine, evaluate, and prescribe treatment or course of action for animals that are not found to be medically or behaviorally sound




- Documentation – maintain high quality record keeping of all animals requiring special care or attention
- Continuous Improvement – contribute to medical and surgical protocol design and improvement

Education & Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of veterinarian experience
- Experience in shelter medicine and the ability to perform orthopedic surgery is an asset
- Robust interest in shelter medicine

Skills & Abilities

As an ideal candidate, you will have advanced knowledge of companion animals, including exotic species, as well as the ability to perform high volume spay/neuter surgeries. You have the ability to work both independently and within a team and demonstrate an ability to work well in stressful situations and adapt accordingly.

Compensation & Benefits The Shelter Veterinarian role is classified in Pay Band 7, with a pay range of $48.08–$67.31 per hour, commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience.

Hours of Work

- Shifts are scheduled as needed to support the shelter's medical team
- Flexibility may be required for evenings, weekends or special events.
