Position Overview:
The District of Fort St. James is seeking a full-time, permanent Water/Wastewater Operator. The successful candidate will report to the Foreman and the Director of Operations. The Water/Wastewater Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection, monitoring, and repair of the District’s water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater systems. This position helps ensure the safe and reliable delivery of drinking water and effective collection and conveyance of wastewater in compliance with all applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, policies, and industry standards.
The Water/Wastewater Operator performs a wide range of operational maintenance, emergency response, regulatory compliance, and customer service functions related to municipal utility systems. Responsibilities include conducting water-quality and wastewater sampling, monitoring system performance, performing infrastructure inspections and repairs, operating required equipment, responding to utility-related emergencies,
and maintaining accurate operational records.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, a Water/Wastewater Operator Level I Certification and Level 1 Water Treatment. Applicants must have a Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract, basic First Aid, and a minimum of two years of experience with water distribution, wastewater collection, wastewater treatment systems, lift/pump station maintenance, general knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and sewer use bylaws. A Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brakes would be an asset.
Additional Information:
This is a permanent full-time union position offering 40 hours of work per week, the hourly rate is $44.55 with 4% in lieu of vacation, after the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period with District offers a comprehensive benefits and pension plan.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal record check.
