Job Summary

This position provides support to designated School of Trades and Technologies program area/s with primary responsibilities for shop safety, maintaining shop cleanliness, submitting work order requests, and supporting programs with tools and equipment for students and faculty. The incumbent is responsible for communicating and working in a collaborative manner with the program area instructors and direct supervisor to ensure the School of Trades and Technologies continues to provide quality, timely, and reliable support for student success.

Specific Duties

Perform toolroom duties on a daily basis providing tools, equipment, supplies, personal protective equipment ( PPE ) and other items.

Identify and recommend purchases of tools and supplies.

Perform shop inspections at the beginning and end of each day to identify and rectify issues in order to maintain a safe working area in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements.

Keep shops and related facilities in clean, skilled and ready-for-use condition.

Initiate work order requests to Facilities as required.

Monitor WHMIS compliance within the work area including keeping an inventory of controlled products, maintaining the MSDS binder, and ensuring containers of controlled products have correct WHMIS labelling.

Perform minor repairs to tools and shop equipment within the scope of qualifications.

Provide First Aid as required.

Skills & Qualifications

High School completion or equivalent

1 year or more related experience

Knowledgeable of trades programming and tools used

Ability to perform minor equipment repairs

Level 2 First Aid certificate required or must obtain within six months.

Strong organizational and prioritizing skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Forklift Certification required or able to obtain within first six months

Competent with MS Office – Outlook, Work, Excel

Physical ability to complete the demands of the position
