As a member of the Planning, Design & Construction team within Facilities Management & Planning, the role contributes to planning studies, space assessments, and project coordination by gathering and verifying space data, preparing analyzes and reports, supporting feasibility assessments, and maintaining accurate space information aligned with institutional priorities.Working closely with academic and administrative stakeholders, the Associate Planner helps identify space needs, document functional requirements, and develop planning recommendations for renovations, capital projects, and operational improvements. The role also supports project administration by coordinating meetings, maintaining records, tracking planning activities, and monitoring project progress. Through strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence, the Associate Planner contributes to effective space governance and helps ensure planning decisions support UTM’s standards for quality, accessibility, sustainability, and operational effectiveness.Your responsibilities will include:Implementing plans and process improvements for project activitiesLiaising between stakeholders and/or contractors to gather and share informationGathering information in preparation for planning reportsMaintaining a database of the university's buildings informationResolving minor complaints within the scope of the role and referring to larger issues when appropriateExchanging information at project planning committee meetingsPreparing and updating CAD drawings for reviewCreating and editing project documentsEssential QualificationsAdvanced College Diploma (3 years) in Architectural Design/ Technology or acceptable combination of equivalent experienceMinimum four years experience in architectural or interior design, space planning, and project coordinationExperience with handling multiple priorities and projects with conflicting deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and high qualityExcellent planning coordination, organizational and analytical skillsStrong background in preparing analysis and generating reportsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written skills, solid proof-reading and editing skillsAssets (Nonessential)Bachelor of Architecture would be an assetAdvanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Auto CAD, Bluebeam and Adobe SuiteFamiliarity with commercial construction projects would be an assetAbility to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problem-solving skills and work under pressureTo be successful in this role you will be:AdaptableMulti-taskerOrganizedProceduralTeam playerPLEASE NOTE: This is a term position for 14 months onlyClosing Date:06/15/2026, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group:USWAppointment Type:Budget - TermSchedule:Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 12 – $81,312. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $103,986.
