We are seeking a proactive, forward-thinking Senior Accountant to join the corporate finance team of a energetic parent management entity based in Southeast Calgary. Supporting specialized divisions across Western Canada and the U.S. in industrial automation, engineering, and systems integration, this individual will play a key role in full-cycle accounting, process optimization, and operational efficiency.
Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, you will act as a steward of core finance processes and thrive in a high-tempo environment where innovation, leverage of AI tools, and process automation are highly valued.
Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To
- Manage full-cycle accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, and lease accounting under US GAAP.
- Process bi-weekly payroll across Canadian operations using QuickBooks Payroll.
- Oversee and verify general ledger coding across accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure accounting accuracy and integrity.
- Actively identify opportunities to streamline financial workflows, leveraging modern technology and AI tools (such as Claude)
to automate routine tasks and enhance team productivity.
- Assist with month-end close, financial reporting, and process improvements across multiple business units.
- Collaborate closely with team members and internal stakeholders, serving as an adaptable, solution-oriented resource who takes ownership of financial processes.
Your Strengths Include:
- 5+ years of broad, full-cycle accounting experience within small-to-mid-sized operating companies; open to candidates with or without a CPA designation.
- Practical experience managing full-cycle Canadian payroll processing.
- Hands-on, solution-oriented mindset with an eagerness to automate manual processes and utilize modern AI tools to drive efficiencies.
- Experience with US GAAP and lease accounting is considered a strong asset.
- Exposure to NetSuite or transition-stage ERP systems is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills with a confident, proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
- Ability to work in a hybrid capacity (3 days in-office in SE Calgary / 2 days remote).
