This temporary, on-call position serves the local community and surrounding areas including Hébertville and Hébertville-Station. About the Role: Post Office Assistant
As a Post Office Assistant , you'll deliver counter services to walk-in customers with a professional and helpful approach. Your responsibilities span everything from selling postal products and services to processing and sorting incoming mail — all while maintaining accuracy and efficiency at the counter.
This is an on-call, temporary position , so flexibility is key. You'll need to be available as needed and comfortable working across service locations in the area. Given the community-based nature of the role, candidates who reside locally are preferred, though applicants within a 50 km radius may also be considered. Note that a security screening process is required as part of the selection.

Responsibilities
Working at the post office counter means you're handling a variety of tasks throughout each shift. From processing mail and serving customers to resolving service issues on the spot, every day brings something a little different. - Sell postal products and services to both the general public and the business community
- Sort, distribute, and process mail into the appropriate classifications accurately and efficiently
- Provide customers with the information and forms they need
- Address delivery and service difficulties, resolving problems thoroughly and promptly
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a combination of retail or customer service experience and the physical capability to handle the demands of a working post office. Canada Post values candidates who are flexible, dependable, and community-minded — someone who can step in when needed and represent the organization well at the counter.
- High school diploma or provincial equivalency and/or experience in business administration
- Experience interacting with the public in a retail or service environment, including sales and cash transactions
- Understanding of general or post office accounting systems
- Physical fitness to lift mail containers of up to 50 lb, push or pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended periods
- Flexibility to be available for temporary, on-call work as required
- Language requirement: French Essential
- Willingness to complete a security screening process as part of the hiring process
