As a global networking leader, learn why there is no better time to join the Extreme team.Position detailsTitle of position:Senior Linux Software Engineer (Networking & Systems)Position type:Full timeLocation:Thornhill, Toronto, CanadaPosition reports to:Senior Manager of Development EngineeringApplication deadline:Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis and this posting will remain open until filled.Work authorization:Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the country where the role will be performed.Key responsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain robustLinux-based softwarein alignment with engineering best practices.Analyse, debug, and optimize code to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability.Develop automation to streamline build, integration, and testing processes.Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and APIs.Collaborate effectively with software, QA, and hardware teams to deliver high-quality solutions.Required Qualifications3–6 years of software engineering experience, primarily inLinux backenddevelopment.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Strong proficiency inC/C++, Java, Pythonor system scripting.Robust understanding ofL2/L3networking and protocols, experience with Linux system application and networking development.Solid experience inmulti-threading, inter-process communication (IPC), and memory management.Hands‑on experience withLinux debuggingand performance profiling tools.Familiarity with open-source development practices.Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.Additional Preferred QualificationsExperience with RESTful API development and integration (yaml, Swagger, Postman).Messaging/streaming subsystems,
like RabbitMQ and Apache Kafka.SQL and NoSQL database design and administration, performance tuning, query optimization. Actual compensation will depend on the selected candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and work location. The posted range reflects the amount Extreme Networks reasonably and in good faith expects to pay upon hire. This range is determined using objective, gender‑neutral criteria based on skills, experience, responsibility, and working conditions.
