As a central, urban hub in the Metro Vancouver area, and the province’s first incorporated city, the City of New Westminster delivers a broad spectrum of urban services to approximately 92,000 residents. New Westminster is a city rich in history, with a viable and thriving economy, a diverse and growing population reflective of the region, and a team of talented and dedicated staff who work together to achieve its strategic vision. The City of New Westminster has earned a proud reputation for sophisticated civic leadership, service delivery, and outstanding employee relations.
The City is focused on promoting opportunities across sectors such as health, education, and the knowledge-based and creative industries, while recognizing the important role retail, arts, and culture play in the community.
About the Role The City is seeking a creative and community-focused leader to meet the needs of a rapidly growing community, ensuring parks and recreational services remain accessible, impactful, and strategically aligned.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced parks and recreation leader with strategic leadership experience and a commitment to building effective, collaborative relationships across a complex municipal environment to lead the Parks and Recreation Department. The preferred candidate will hold a university degree in Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field, along with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive responsibility in municipal parks and recreation services, including significant supervisory and leadership experience. The ideal candidate will have completed supplemental courses or a certificate in local government administration, business management, human resources, or leadership.
