INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL OF FISHERIES – HARVESTING Community Based Education Delivery

Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University

6 Month Contract

The School of Fisheries delivers education and training programs to students interested in entering the aquaculture, fishing, environmental and food industries. The School offers academic programs ranging from industry certifications to diplomas of technology, joint diploma/bachelor degrees, advanced diplomas, post-graduate certificates, and master's degrees.

The School of Fisheries is responsible for developing and delivering education and training programs required to meet the needs of the seafood harvesting and processing sectors, the agri-foods sector, and the aquaculture industry. These instructors have years of industry experience and education in harvesting, processing, aquaculture, and the marine setting.

DUTIES To meet training requirements, the School of Fisheries is seeking a qualified instructor to deliver the Fishing Master III program (https://www.mi.mun.ca/shortcourses/transportcanadacourses/) and other industry short courses. This position will be based out of Holyrood, NL.

The successful candidate will be required to instruct the Fishing Master III program with the following courses: Chartwork and Pilotage, Level 2, Communications, Level 1,



Ship Construction and Stability Level 2, Meteorology, Level 2, General Ship Knowledge, Level 1 and General Seamanship (FM3-O).

Qualifications Minimum possession of a Fishing Masters II Certificate of Competency. A diploma of technology or a university degree in a fisheries-related field would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have experience with curriculum development; an equivalent combination of education and training may be considered.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills are required. Proven leadership qualities and the ability to work with a motivated, multi-disciplinary team are also required. This position may require travel within Newfoundland & Labrador. Previous post-secondary teaching experience is an asset.

SALARY:

Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors’ Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
