DWF is seeking an experienced Litigation Associate (5 - 9 years’ call) to join our growing Calgary office. This position is ideal for a lawyer looking to take the next step in their litigation career. You will handle your own files and work directly with experienced counsel. You will receive hands‑on mentorship to assist in further development of your career.
You Will Have The Opportunity To
Work on sophisticated insurance defence and civil litigation matters
Gain meaningful exposure to clients and litigation strategy
Participate in questionings, mediations, court appearances and trials
Work closely with experienced counsel who are committed to mentorship and professional development
Develop a practice within one of Canada’s leading litigation teams
Responsibilities
As a member of our Alberta litigation team you will:
Manage and contribute to a variety of insurance defence and civil litigation matters
Draft pleadings, briefs, applications, opinions and other litigation materials
Conduct legal research and provide strategic recommendations
Conduct questionings, mediations, and chambers applications
Contribute to the strategic management of complex and high‑profile matters
Deliver exceptional client service standards through effective communication and file management
Participate in professional development and business development activities that support practice growth
What will help you succeed in this role?
We Are Looking For a Lawyer Who Brings
5 - 9 years of post‑call civil litigation experience
Experience in insurance defence litigation is preferred; candidates with strong civil litigation experience from other practice areas are encouraged to apply
Familiarity with the Alberta Rules of Court and litigation procedures
Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills
Sound professional judgment and attention to detail
Excellent communication and interpersonal
Strong organizational skills and time management abilities
A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional client service
