What we seek:

OCH is looking for a resourceful Maintenance Worker to assist our tenants and communities regarding their maintenance needs. Reporting to the Manager, Tenant Experience the Maintenance Worker will help to repair, and upkeep occupied and vacant units, as well as common areas and grounds.

Maintenance Worker with OCH:

The Maintenance Worker helps ensure tenants have safe, clean, and well-maintained homes, buildings and communities by completing repairs, preparing units for new occupancy, and addressing maintenance concerns promptly. Through quality workmanship and positive tenant interactions, the role supports tenant well-being and helps create housing communities where people can thrive.

As a Maintenance Worker, some of the things you will do include:

- Complete a wide range of residential maintenance, repair, and improvement work in occupied and vacant units.

- Perform carpentry repairs, including cabinets, countertops, doors, windows, trim, flooring,



and hardware.

- Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical systems, fixtures, switches, outlets, smoke detectors, and related equipment.

- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, fittings, drains, and water supply components.

- Repair and finish drywall, patch walls, install ceramic tile, and perform basic painting and finishing work.

- Service and repair household appliances, including refrigerators, stoves, washers, and dryers.

- Prepare vacant units for occupancy by completing repairs, inspections, cleaning, and safety checks.

- Maintain compliance with health, safety, fire prevention, and regulatory requirements, reporting hazards and deficiencies as needed.

- Deliver excellent customer service by interacting professionally and respectfully with tenants, staff, contractors, and the public.

- Maintain accurate work order records, manage tools and materials, operate vehicles and equipment safely, and support other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

What you bring:

Education & Experience:





A typical candidate will have the following qualifications and experience. Exceptional candidates with different qualifications will be considered at the discretion of the employer if demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability warrant.

- Completion of a minimum Grade 10 or equivalent plus relevant training in building maintenance.

- A minimum of two (2) years experience in building maintenance/construction.

- Health and safety training required by legislation and by OCH.

- Demonstrated knowledge of methods and techniques of building repair and maintenance tasks

- Working knowledge of applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

- Working knowledge of hand and power tools.

Skills and Abilities

- Effective communication skills

- Ability to overcome social and cultural barriers to communication

- Ability to follow protocols while performing maintenance tasks

- Possess physical and technical capabilities to perform related duties

- Ability to effectively manage and address the needs of individuals with diverse socio-economical challenges

- Competent at using electronic devices such as smartphones and/or tablets

- Ability to speak, read and write in English is mandatory

- Ability to speak French or additional languages commonly used by OCH tenants is an asset

Work conditions:

This is a temporary, full-time on-site position.

Possess a valid Class “G” driver’s license or equivalent
