NRC is seeking a Research Associate to join its Quantum and Nanotechnologies unit. This early-career role emphasizes photonic integrated circuit design and simulation, targeting space-based biosignature detection. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field obtained in the last five years and have substantial experience in photonics and device characterization.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and simulate PICs using tools like Lumerical
• Develop silicon nitride device architectures for spectroscopy
• Conduct optical characterization and support fiber-optic coupling
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and publish findings
• Ensure packaging standards for waveguide devices
Requirements:
• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field
• Significant experience with electromagnetic simulation tools
• Knowledge of photonic device layout and fabrication
• Capacity for independent research and innovation
• Ability to travel internationally for collaboration
