We are seeking a highly motivated, customer-focused, and technically proficient High Net Worth (HNW) Underwriter to support Prudential’s global HNW life insurance business. The role is responsible for delivering consistent, timely, and well-supported underwriting decisions that are in line with Prudential’s underwriting philosophy, risk appetite, governance standards, and service commitments.
The HNW Underwriter will assess medical, financial and customer due diligence (CDD) information to manage standard to moderately complex cases. The role will work closely with the Chief Underwriter, reinsurers, brokers, and internal stakeholders to achieve sound underwriting outcomes.
The position also supports claims adjudication and post-issuance underwriting activity, balancing strong technical judgement and disciplined risk management with high-quality customer and broker experience.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Execution
Execute underwriting assessments for Bermuda-based policies within assigned authority limits
Handle standard to moderately complex HNW cases in line with underwriting guidelines
Conduct medical and financial underwriting, including assessment of source of wealth/funds and insurable interest
Review medical evidence and determine appropriate underwriting outcomes
Support evidence gathering and requirements management
Ensure accurate and complete documentation of underwriting decisions, aligned with underwriting guidelines and relevant regulations
Build trusted broker and client relationships through thoughtful risk assessment, constructive negotiation, and clear communication of underwriting decisions, requirements and value proposition
Maintain current, in-depth knowledge of medical and financial risk factors, life underwriting principles and practices, clinical testing and evolving medical procedures to ensure accurate, evidence-based risk assessments
Demonstrate flexibility to work with some non-standard hours, as require, to support effective collaboration with Prudential offices, distribution partners, and brokers operating across different time zones
Claims & Post-issuance Underwriting
Support claims adjudication activities, including review of underwriting decisions at claim stage
Assess post-issuance changes and ensure continued alignment with underwriting standards
Performance & Service Delivery
Support portfolio performance monitoring by preparing portfolio reports (for key metrics e.g., loss ratio, expense ratio, etc.), extracting initial view on trends based on data and developing proposed remediating actions for senior underwriter review
Manage case workload to meet turnaround time (TAT) and service standards
Maintain high levels of accuracy and quality in underwriting decisions
Consistently achieve excellent individual audit review results
Stakeholder Engagement
Work with case managers, brokers, and distribution teams to support case progression
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally
Requirements & Qualifications
University graduate, preferably in Business, Risk Management or a related discipline
4–8 years of life underwriting experience, with 1-2 years of exposure to HNW segment
Skilled qualification in Life Insurance e.g., FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute), Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU), etc.
Experience in dealing with Reinsurers, Compliance, Legal and Distribution teams (e.g., Agency, Bancassurance and Brokerage)
Proficient in English, both verbal and written
Proficient in using Microsoft applications, e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc.
Experience in multi-jurisdictional or offshore insurance environments preferred
