The Ministry of Hospitals and Surgical Health Services is building a more resilient and sustainable health care delivery system that can support Albertans getting care when and where they need it, while responding to system-wide health challenges, improving health outcomes and maintaining fiscal responsibility. The ministry supports Albertans’ health by delivering safe, person-centered, quality emergency and medical health services; procurement and contract management; supporting innovative information management and technologies; and regulating hospital and emergency health care.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), you will serve as a key advisor to the ADM, Deputy Minister, and Minister on issues affecting Emergency Health Services (EHS). As Executive Director, EHS you will also strategically lead a branch responsible for: ground and air ambulance services; EHS communications and dispatch; licensing, investigations, and compliance of ambulance operators; and clinical governance and standards for EHS. Working collaboratively with Primary and Preventative Health Services, Assisted Living and Social Services, Mental Health and Addictions, Acute Care Alberta, Assisted Living Alberta, Primary Care Alberta, Recovery Alberta, contracted ambulance operators, municipal partners,
health care professionals, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders you will ensure Albertans have timely access to safe, high-quality, sustainable EHS. As the strategic lead you will oversee EHS policy development, planning, standards, funding, and operational oversight activities supporting government priorities and contributing to improved health outcomes for Albertans. You will also represent ministry interests with provincial organizations, municipalities, contracted service providers, and national health system partners. Demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement, you will inspire the branch team to embrace innovation and modernization.
Qualifications
Success in this role calls for a progressive leader with a background that includes related senior management leadership experience in health care, emergency health services, public administration, or related experience in the public sector. You bring demonstrated experience leading complex strategic policy and planning, operational, or system transformation initiatives. Your background also includes an applied understanding of government decision-making, legislative frameworks, accountability processes and policy development mechanisms. A practiced relationship builder, you excel at engaging stakeholders in shaping and implementing high impact. Your capacity to inspire and empower change-agile teams will support you in delivering on key objectives. Preference will be given to those with experience working within government; current or past paramedic experience; and EHS management experience.
Bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree in health administration or health sciences is preferred.
$ 5,896.65 - $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902.57 - $202.256.21 annually)
