About The Opportunity
Plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program plan focusing on physical, social, cultural, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of the patients
Using a variety of interview and observational techniques obtains all necessary information related to the therapeutic recreation assessment; addresses all recreation therapy referrals from the interdisciplinary team
Develops individual treatment plans with patients/Substitute Decision Makers based on assessment results, applying facilitation techniques to assist clients in achieving identified goals
Maintains accurate patient participation records; analyzes data to assist in the development of appropriate program
Demonstrates effective communication strategies and skills when relating to patients, family, and team members
About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
Undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation with certification in the field of Therapeutic Recreation
Minimum of one-year combined experience in the delivery of recreation in health care
Knowledge of techniques and equipment needed for a variety of recreation programs used in a therapeutic setting.
Strong computer literacy skills (including word processing, spreadsheet and database software).
Certified or eligible to be certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
Member of the Nova Scotia Therapeutic Recreation Association
Basics Food Safety Training/ Food Handlers Course
Proof of valid CPR and First Aid certification required
Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
