The Town of Milton is proud to deliver high-quality, sustainable municipal services that support a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking community where residents thrive, businesses succeed, and nature is respected and protected.Our vision is to foster a safe, diverse, and welcoming environment—one that honours its natural landscapes and rich heritage, supports thriving and inclusive neighbourhoods, nurtures a strong and balanced economy, and offers exceptional opportunities to live, learn, work, and play.What We Offer?This position is eligible for the following:• Starting Hourly Rate: $38.65• Benefits: Employee Assistance Program and option to participate in the OMERS pension plan• Employee perks/discounts: Discount on Active Living Pass and Perkopolis• For further details of what we offer,Position SummaryReporting to the Coordinator, Cultural Services or Coordinator, Recreation, this part-time position is responsible for the planning and instruction of quality programs, ensuring that all activities are safe, fun and appropriate for the targeted age group and expectations of the department.Major Job ResponsibilitiesMajor Job ResponsibilitiesProgram implementation with a focus on quality customer experiences:Ensure a safe and well-supervised learning environment is provided, while encouraging individuals to actively participateWork with the Supervisor, to develop structured programs that meet the needs of the participantsFacilitate a lecture and or demonstration of an assigned topic at each classEnsure daily programming is adapted to all program participant needsReceive all parent/participant (as applicable based on programming) concerns and communicate concerns or incidents to supervisorProvide sufficient time for participants to work independently and provide one-on-one assistance when requiredEstablish positive relationships and work cooperatively with staff and participants and provide clear communicationProvide guidance and oversight of volunteersEstablish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff and participantsMaintain a protected and clean facility including proper usage and use of equipment. Proactively communicate program needs to facility operations staff and communicate any facility or equipment deficiencies to supervisor.Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks. Communicate any action or concerns to supervisor.Maintain communication with customer service desk to provide relevant program updates and to request support in the event of an emergencyMaintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement.Provides suggestions to supervisor on ways to enhance the customer experienceComply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety ActAdministrative Tasks:Develop and prepare a material list and lesson plans to meet the needs of the program and participantsModify lesson plans as necessary based on program participant needsProvide lesson plans, regular updates and feedback to immediate SupervisorAttend all mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and all allocated program timesReport any incidents, to the Supervisor, ensuring all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completedSubmit required forms (including payroll)Maintain accurate attendance and other administrative records as requiredEducation & ExperienceEducation & Experience• Secondary School Diploma Preferred• Post-Secondary Education related to specialized field is preferred• Minimum of five (5) years teaching/program instruction experience• Experience working with targeted age group Certifications or Designations is an asset• Standard First Aid and CPR C• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (children’s programs)• Certifications/workshops in a related field and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent is as asset• Expert knowledge and aptitude in a specific area of interest (e.g. art history, including contemporary practice, languages, music, dance,
wellness)• Master level expertise in variety of techniques and practice specific to the area of interest (e.g. painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, hand building, clay sculpture, languages, music, dance, wellness)• Expert in one or more artistic techniques, practices and materials in a minimum of one area of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, hand building, clay sculpture)• Solid problem solving skills with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment• Superior instructional and facilitation skills• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills• Effective program planning and service delivery skillsNote to ApplicantsThis posting is for an existing job vacancy.The Town is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and respectful workplace.
