Please Note: This is a temporary position ending on or before April 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension.

This position is responsible for providing overall lab support for the Medical Laboratory programs. This includes the complex setup and take down of laboratory sessions, creating medical specimens, maintaining equipment and analyzers, determining inventory and supply requirements for student labs, and the overall maintenance of the laboratory spaces themselves. Please note, this role has limited student contact.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare supplies and create samples and specimens for laboratory sessions

Set up and take down of medical laboratory equipment

Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and service calls

Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory equipment/instrumentation to manufacturers’ standards in compliance with program specifications

Provide operating, troubleshooting, and maintenance support to the programs

Perform quality control procedures

Ensure work area is in a safe and clean condition

Assist in the ordering of supplies and expendable items, and maintain related inventory records





Liaise with team members and members of other work units

Skills & Abilities

Strong oral and written communication

Strong interpersonal skills

Robust time management and organizational skills

A solid working knowledge of a clinical laboratory setting, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the medical laboratory field

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Use of Microsoft suite programs

Ability to lift 20 - 30 lbs unassisted

Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours

Ability to physically perform standard medical laboratory work

Ability to work flexible hours and assignments

Qualifications

A minimum of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute

A minimum 2-5 years of related experience is preferred

Must be registered or eligible for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA)

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).

Classification - Educational Laboratory Technologist III
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.

Remuneration
Refer to salary range noted on this posting,



plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay.

Note: Remuneration for part-time positions will be pro-rated based on FTE (full-time equivalent).

The compensation range for this job posting is : $65,130.30 - $86,868.96
