The Coordinator, Health and Safety, supports sites and regional offices by ensuring compliance with corporate and industrial health and safety frameworks, and ensures that staff follow established health and safety policies and procedures. The incumbent promotes and coordinates health and safety efforts with multiple stakeholders (e.g. construction coordinators), audits contractor health and safety plans, and investigates health and safety incidents.
Primary
Act as a site resource on health and safety policy and legislation
Promote and coordinate health and safety efforts with multiple stakeholders
Update contract documents to include appropriate safety requirements
Review contractor safety submissions
Conduct safety inspections of project sites and complete monitoring documentation
Collaborate and share best practices
Prepare, coordinate and chair monthly staff safety meetings
Support corporate health and safety requirements
Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, the Client-Partners and/or stakeholders
Manage risk
Other
Act as a regional resource in support of health and safety management.
Investigate accidents and incidents, and meet all associated reporting requirements
Maintain relationships with provincial and federal regulatory authorities
Organize, present and/or participate in health and safety training and development
Other duties as assigned

Formal Education And/or Certification(s) And Experience
Minimum: college diploma in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or related field with two years’ relevant experience, or the equivalent
Preferred: related industry designation (e.g. Canadian Registered Safety Professional)

Provide functional advice and guidance to employees
Working Conditions
Typical construction site environment; incumbent is required to wear basic safety equipment

To begin a career with Defence Construction Canada (DCC), you must be a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. As a condition of employment with DCC, a minimum reliability security status clearance is required and some roles may require secret security status clearance.
DCC is responsible for the Personnel Security Clearance process . Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information. The process usually involves reference inquiries,
