HL19 - $67,358.00 - $87,565.85 per annum.

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Consultant works in a complex, unionized post-secondary environment, serving as a first point of contact and providing front-line advice and support to managers and employees on a broad range of employee and labour relations matters.

Provide advice, guidance, and support to managers on employee and labour relations matters, including performance, attendance, conduct, discipline, workplace conflict, and other employment-related concerns.

Interpret and administer collective agreements, legislation, policies, and established human resources practices.

Support managers in preparing for and conducting difficult conversations and meetings, including progressive discipline processes.

Support grievance and dispute resolution processes, including preparing for and participating in grievance meetings, supporting mediation processes, and assisting with arbitration preparation.

Liaise with union representatives and other stakeholders to exchange information and support the resolution of employee and labour relations concerns.

Conduct or support informal and formal fact-finding and inquiries by gathering, reviewing, and assessing information to identify relevant facts, issues, risks, and potential solutions.

Support Staffing and Recruitment with processes related to layoffs, termination notices, bumping, reassignment, recall, and other collective agreement requirements impacting hiring.

Develop and deliver training, information sessions, tools, and resources for managers.

Participate in collective bargaining activities by conducting research, analyzing information, and preparing materials to support negotiations.

Maintain accurate, confidential, and appropriate files, documentation, and records.

Perform other related human resources duties as required.

Screening Criteria





Bachelor's degree in business (equivalencies will be considered).

Experience supporting employee and/or labour relations functions in a unionized environment.

Experience interpreting and applying collective agreements, relevant workplace policies, and/or employment legislation.

Assessment Criteria

Knowledge of employee and labour relations functions and practices, including the interpretation and administration of collective agreements.

Analytical and critical thinking skills.

Sound judgment and problem-solving skills.

Ability to navigate sensitive or challenging conversations with tact and diplomacy.

Ability to manage time, tasks, and competing priorities.

Professionalism.

as all positions will involve some degree of in office work, unless otherwise indicated.

This position provides flexibility in location, with consideration being given to candidates requesting to work from any one of our human resources offices throughout the province - St. John's - Topsail Road Office, Clarenville Campus, Grand Falls-Windsor Campus, or Stephenville - Headquarters.

There are two (2) full-time contractual positions to fill. One position is currently approved until July 31, 2027, and the second position is approved until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension.

Preference will be given to applicants who are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or those who are legally entitled to work in Canada.
