Public Health Nurses working in a School Health Focused Practice are required to practice with a high level of autonomy in community settings with the ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement. The PHNs role is to promote, protect and preserve the health of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations in a variety of settings in an ongoing or episodic process. On a regular basis, this position provides family-centered support and preventative approaches for infants, children and their parents through routine and complex immunization appointments. This position also includes working with school populations, community partners, and other health professionals supporting capacity building approaches focused on strengths. The PHN has direct responsibilities within a Population Health Model to assess key health determinants and respond to global, national, provincial and local mandates. Many of the responsibilities of the PHN are mandated by the Public Health Act and Communicable Disease Regulations. PHNS will Advocate and engage in healthy public policy options to facilitate healthy living, incorporating the concepts of inclusiveness, equity and social justice as well as the principles of community development.
Description: As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide protected, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit,



the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).




Additional Required Qualifications: Comfortable driving in all weather conditions.Lift/carry supplies to a minimum of 30 lbs.Ability to raise arms to shoulder height in a repetitive movement & use fine motor hand coordination.Ability to bend, twist, kneel & respond safely to emergency situations.Perform skills for BLSSit/stand for a minimum of 30 minutes.Work within outreach sites that does not have consistent ergonomic setup.At least 1 year experience working as a RN in any of the following areas; Prenatal, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Pediatrics, and/or Immunization within the life span within the last 3 years.A minimum of 1-year current work experience in Public Health-Well Child Clinic in the last 3 years.Communicate effectively with diverse clients from various cultures, ages and socioeconomic backgrounds.Proficient computer & keyboarding skills.Demonstrate culturally competent care.Conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at the point of care.Self-directed and able to exercise critical thinking & independent nursing judgment in fast paced & stressful environment. Able to make critical decisions & respond safely & quickly to situations/settings (e.g anaphylaxis, frequent faints, post-partum depression screening, emergency response).New employees to AHS must have a recent (three months or less) criminal record check/police information check (including vulnerable sector search).
Preferred Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in a community setting will be considered.Current School Health Nursing experience within the last 3 years.Current CNA Certification in Community Health Nursing. Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant.Experience working in Connect Care Clinical Information System.
