Piping Engineer Fire Protection Location: Burnaby, BC Duration: 12-Month Contract Work Arrangement: Hybrid Travel: Travel to hydroelectric generating stations throughout British Columbia as required Match

Box Consulting Group is seeking an Intermediate Piping Engineer Fire Protection to support one of British Columbias largest utility providers.

Based out of Burnaby, this position will support the design, analysis, and implementation of fire protection and piping systems for hydroelectric generating stations and associated infrastructure .

The role offers exposure to equipment upgrades, lifecycle replacements, condition assessments, asset management initiatives, and large multidisciplinary capital projects across BCs hydroelectric generation portfolio.

Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of fire protection piping systems , including sprinkler systems, special hazard protection systems, water supply systems, and associated piping networks.

Act as a Professional of Record , preparing and sealing engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and reports.

Perform engineering assessments, field investigations, site assessments, hazard analyses, code compliance reviews, and risk-based evaluations.

Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs from project initiation through construction and commissioning.

Perform water supply evaluations, hydraulic calculations, and system performance analyses.

Prepare design calculations, engineering reports, technical specifications, construction packages, and procurement documentation.

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, protection and controls, operations, maintenance, construction, and project management teams.

Review and accept engineering work completed by external consultants and contractors.

Support estimating, scheduling, construction, commissioning, and project turnover.

Develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions supporting safety, operations, and long-term asset management.

Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, design tools, and work processes.

Travel to hydroelectric generating stations throughout BC as required.





Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering discipline .

Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.

Eng.) with EGBC .

Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience .

Experience designing and implementing piping systems within industrial, utility, power generation, mining, oil & gas, heavy industrial, or similar facilities.

Experience delivering engineering work from conceptual design through construction, commissioning, and turnover .

Experience using piping design software.

Awareness of fire protection engineering principles, codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Ability to act as Professional of Record and provide sealed engineering deliverables.

Ability to travel to and work at hydroelectric generating stations throughout British Columbia.

Technical Knowledge Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying one or more of the following: ASME B31.1 Power Piping ASME B31.3 Process Piping NFPA 13 Sprinkler Systems NFPA 15 Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection NFPA 20 Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection Knowledge of NFPA 850, NFPA 22, NFPA 25 , and applicable BC building, fire, electrical, and regulatory requirements is considered an asset.

Software Experience Experience with one or more of the following: AutoCAD AutoCAD Plant 3D Navisworks Autodesk ReCap AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, ELITE, HASS, or equivalent Preferred Experience Fire protection engineering within utilities, hydroelectric generation, power generation, or heavy industrial facilities . 3D modelling and coordination, including laser scanning and point-cloud integration.

Hands-on piping design experience using relevant design software.





Experience acting as an Engineer of Record or Professional of Record .

Multidisciplinary project delivery within operating industrial facilities.

Field support during construction, commissioning, testing, and integrated systems verification.

Performance-based fire protection design methodologies.

Condition assessments, lifecycle planning, and asset management of fire protection systems.
