Our growing company is seeking a motivated Service Retrofit Technical Specialist to join our operations Department. This role is ideal for a technically skilled individual with experience in HVAC controls, retrofit projects, and a strong aptitude for project coordination, programming, and commissioning.
Reporting to the Operations Director, the Service Retrofit Technical Specialist will support the full project lifecycle of service retrofit initiatives—from early-stage site visits, design development to on-site execution and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with both internal teams such as PMO, design and technical team along with the external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of retrofit solutions aligned with customer goals and technical specifications.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Control Service General
Conduct Service Inspections, calibration, testing and operational verification of DDC controlled equipment.
Completing service-related repair, replacement and diagnostic work
New installation of DDC controllers, and equipment for retrofit, upgrade or expansion projects.
Programming and commissioning of DDC control equipment.
Retrofit job start up and modifications.
New construction job start-up and commissioning assistance as needed
Providing customer recommendations and assistance with quote preparation
Building operator training and work closely with customers and contractors
Service Contracts
Perform preventative, corrective DDC maintenance based on service contract agreement and generate new opportunities for retrofit or expansion of the existing building management system.
Oversees,



verifies and ensures all service Task are being completed correctly and where necessary, completes technical and engineering tasks to ensure service tasks are completed correctly
Ensure service reports are completed in a timely manner
Service Retrofit Projects
Coordinate and manage assigned service retrofit projects in collaboration with Sales, PMO and engineering teams.
Perform initial site visits with the sales team to do a handover to analyze site condition to lead into the design phase of the project.
Liaise with internal departments and clients to establish project timelines, deliverables, and execution plans.
Provide regular updates on project status and resolve project-related issues proactively.

Independently handle site coordination and take complete ownership of the technical and execution aspects of projects.
Work within the established budget and make decisions on the need for additional resources, assessing their impact on budget control
Facilitate coordination between the electrical team and the technical team, and lead commissioning meetings on behalf of Olympic Controls (OC).
Develop and manage electrical deficiencies lists with the foreman, ensuring readiness before subsequent site visits.
Work under the direct guidance of the Design Engineering Manager (Rahul) to assist in retrofit project designs.
Design and/or review technical documentation, control drawings, sequences of operation, and submittals.
Assist in site surveys and audits to collect information for system design and integration.
Maintain thorough technical understanding and actively participate in monthly domain discussions to stay informed
Lead in the design of point lists and sequences, ensuring correct tagging and readiness for end-to-end testing
Program, configure, and commission DDC and building automation control systems
Perform hands-on implementation of retrofit systems including field device installation,



controllers and system integration
Conduct functional testing and troubleshooting to verify performance against design and operational criteria
Ensure all project deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule
Based on the request, an electrical resource will be assigned to work with the team
Maintain trend logs, alarm logs, and scheduling; utilize trend logs to validate system functionality and avoid unnecessary rework
Communicate internal updates freely within the team while ensuring the PM is informed. All external communications to be handled and sent by the PM
Customer Interaction & Support
Interface directly with customers and contractors to communicate project plans, resolve issues, and provide technical guidance
Provide training and support to building operators and end users on installed systems
Support sales and service teams with technical input on new retrofit opportunities or change orders
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS OR COMPETENCIES:
Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls or Computer Engineering or equivalent
3+ years of experience in HVAC controls, service retrofits, or building automation
Demonstrated ability to program and commission DDC systems (e.g., Tridium, Siemens, Honeywell, etc.)
Solid understanding of HVAC mechanical systems, building operations, and controls theory
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Effective communicator with clients, team members, and leadership
Self-driven and capable of working independently or in team settings
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required
DESIRABLE ASSETS:
Robust understanding of HVAC system operations
5+ years of professional experience in HVAC or related fields
Experience within service setting and customer relations
Self-motivated, driven, detailed oriented and well organized
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced business environment
Keen to learn and follow through on actions
Experience in new construction or retrofit projects and integration projects is an asset
Familiarity with energy optimization strategies and analytics tools
Working knowledge of network protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.) and Controller programming such as JCI, Distech and Honeywell
